Heaven or Hell: Which Will You Choose?
Heaven is not a fairy tale. Heaven is not a bedtime story. Heaven is not some foggy place in the clouds where disembodied spirits float around strumming harps. Heaven is very real. Jesus told His disciples:
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
In heaven, Christians will receive new, glorified, incorruptible bodies; Immortal bodies that will live for all eternity.
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
–1 Corinthians 15:51-57
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
In spite of the many misrepresentations in popular culture or by the entertainment industry, heaven is not dull. Hatred, death, jealousy, lying, strife: none of these will be found in heaven.
Neither will there be found pain, tears, fatigue or any of the other conditions that make this present life so hard to live.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Almighty God will no longer be afar off for He will dwell with us.
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
We know these things to be true because they are written in the scriptures. Not only will we be inhabitants of heaven, we will be heirs.
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”
Heaven will not be boring. It will be a place with plenty to do. The Bible hints that, in heaven, joy will be indescribable; a place of never-ending activity.
Heaven will be a place of intellectual stimulation like none we have experienced before. We will also see and know God face-to-face.
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
–1 Corinthians 13:12
In fact, heaven will be so overwhelmingly joyous and happy, that we mortals can’t even imagine how happy we will be.
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
ARE YOU GOING?
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
Hell also is a very real place. Hell is also a very terrible place; a place that was not originally intended for man.
“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”
Hell is not a place where a person will play poker with their buddies. Hell is not a fairy tale or a bedtime story. Hell is real; hell is desperately dreadful and disturbing.

Jesus was very clear about how horrible a place hell is. In fact, He said it would be better to lose an eye in this life than to spend eternity in hell.
“And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”
Jesus came and died for us so that we would not have to face an eternity in hell, separated from God Almighty. The most terrible thing about hell is that it is separation from God Himself and all that he represents: love, peace, joy, kindness.
ARE YOU GOING?
“…and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
“The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
WHICH WILL YOU CHOOSE?
The gospel of Christ has the power to save!
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-4 – (h/t:B)
People may argue, “God would never send me to hell.” And they are right.
God doesn’t send anyone to hell.
People themselves choose to go to hell.
God wants all men to escape the tortures of hell.
““The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that ALL should come to REPENTANCE”
–2 Peter 3:9
But God is perfect. As such, he is a perfect judge who will judge sin. God will judge sin on his perfect, holy terms–not man’s.
You must decide where you will spend eternity. There is no reason to choose to spend forever in hell.
Jesus Christ has paid the full penalty for your sins on the cross. Since Jesus suffered, died and rose again, there is no reason for anyone to go to hell.
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”
–1 Peter 3:18
Again: where will you choose to spend eternity?
You must come to Him now just as you are: a guilty sinner unable to save yourself. Commit your life to Christ today! You can pray something like this:
“God, I know that I am a sinner worthy of hell. Thank You for sending Jesus to take the punishment for my sins that I might spend eternity in heaven with You. I invite You into my life to be my Lord and Savior. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
If you were sincere in your heart–and God knows your heart–you are now saved! Not because you prayed a prayer–but because you realize you are a sinner in need of a Savior and have invited Jesus to be the Lord of your life.
But getting saved is only the beginning. Now, get busy!
Go tell others about your new life in Christ! Help lead others out of hell. Spread the Good News of the eternal life to be had by belief on Jesus Christ!
