The Dumbing Down of America
The image at the beginning of this piece began with this article: Were Children Smarter a Century Ago? Test for Eighth Graders in Kentucky Dated 1912 Ignites Debate Over Kids’ Intelligence Today.
Actually, this writer got the image from a Bullitt County (KY) History website. But, the image entered into 2013 America’s consciousness via Lew Rockewell‘s piece.
It was soon picked up by others in the Corporate Media, including the Washington Post and the Daily Mail (UK). While Rockwell’s original piece questioned the educational system, once the Corporate Media got hold of it, the discussion changed altogether.
It sparked a distracting discussion, mostly about the differences in intelligence of children of 1912 and 2013 America. One speculates that the differences in intelligence would be negligible. However, the differences in schooling are miles apart.
The Corporate Media was interested in the test questions and the false discussion of “Were kids smarter?” A good example is
What’s amusing about this article is the comments. Some of the people commenting tried to justify their ignorance. An example was “I can make 100% on this test as long as I have access to the internet. Why memorize a bunch of worthless information you are just going to forget later?”
This comment is proof of 3 things:
1- The dumbing down process has been a complete success–at least in this person’s case;
2- The self-esteem movement did it’s job. As the population became less knowledgeable, the students were told how special and smart they were. Why work hard to acquire knowledge when I can just claim I’m smart? Again, mission accomplished; and,
3- Texas–home of the person commenting–is not some special city on a hill and will be a sitting duck (like the rest of the USA) when the hammer comes down on the witless.
A few comments pointed out typographical errors without attempting to actually spell ‘typographical.”
There is much speculation as to why the string-pullers want an ignorant population. One theory is a stupid population is easier to weed out.
FLUORIDE STUPIDITY and POPULATION CONTROL
The elites, the Ted Turners, the Bill Gates, et.al. make no secret of their desire to see 13 of every 14 people on earth vanish. [From 7 Billion to 500,000: the Sick Population Control Agenda of the Global Elite]
While that premise is undoubtedly true, another reason seems to be that a compliant citizenry is desired.
Ignorant, dumbed-down people are much easier to herd–witness the jaw-dropping obedience to whatever appears on the TV or smartphones these days.
Perhaps a better reason of why a stupid people (who can no longer use critical thinking skills) is desired is a combination of the two. Kill off most of the people and the ones left will make better slaves?!?
Whatever the reason, looking the test over–and having at one time taught in public schools–it’s a cinch that no more than perhaps 1% of the students at any secondary level would pass the test today. That observation is based on administering a “cold” test; i.e., one with no study or preparation beforehand.
Oh, and by the way:
