“Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
—Isaiah 7:14 – (h/t:B)
US Marines arrive in Dijibouti amid surge in violence in South Sudan – US boots on the ground in one more country. The USA currently has troops in over 150 countries around the world. It has over 164,253 active duty military personnel serving outside the USA. The USA has the world’s second-largest active military.
“Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels.”
–Samuel Johnson 1775
What a grand stander! The Congressional ban on “Christmas messages” is a ban on sending a Merry Christmas message to constituents and having the taxpayer foot the bill. Nothing prevents congress critters from sending messages to the folks back home and paying for the postage out of their own pockets.
If Gosar (R-AZ) wanted to send a Merry Christmas message to his constituents on his own dime, he was perfectly able and right to do so. However, the congressman wanted to do it on the cheap (he was a dentist before heading off to The DC (Den of Corruption). Now, after stiffing the taxpayers, he makes it sound like it’s a free speech issue–which makes him 100% perfectly suited to be working with the cartel in The DC.
If patriotism really is the last refuge of scoundrels, the “war on Christmas” is becoming a popular back-up location.
Hopefully, Gosar was a better dentist than a constitutional lawyer.
NOTE: This was run on a Tea Party website, posted by “the National Director.” This writer was under the impression that the Tea Party was primarily concerned with politicians wasting taxpayer’s money. Apparently not this Tea Party group.
Should Congress regulate data brokers and targeted Internet ads? – Most Internet users have no idea how much information about them, their habits and their finances is collected, stored and sold to the highest bidder.
68 percent celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday – Presumably this means the hordes who show up at churches on Christmas and Easter–and no other time during the year.
“The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.”
—Isaiah 40:5 – (h/t:B)
62 percent of American homeowners believe that their homes are worth more than they owe – Next question: is this still true even if everyone is trying to sell at the same time?
(VIDEO) “Instant Happiness.” – Don’t know what these four are saying, but they do look like they’re having a good time.
Churches offer special “no-sin” special services for Christmas – Anointed with oil and blessed without repentance?!?
“Part of it is a recognition that both the culture and even the church, at this time of year, can tend to completely overlook suffering. Everybody is supposed to be cheery and happy and all of that, and yet that isn’t the case for some people.”
Completely overlooked at the services: what the Bible says is the cause of suffering in a lost and dying world: sin.
Is it heartless to point this out?
“There was no sermon, instead it was a mix of scripture with healing words, quiet songs, prayers and the lighting of eight candles, each on behalf of particular struggles: Pain and illness, financial problems, broken families, addiction.”
A different kind of Christmas service offering a different kind of gospel: a gospel devised by men, which can offer nothing but a temporary relief. Sad–and indicative of the times in which we live.
It’s like having a cure for cancer and offering a cancer patient a shot of whiskey instead.
IN THE EMAIL – (h/t:B)
JESUS LOVES ME (for Old Folks)
Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
YES, JESUS LOVES ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.
Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I’ll go
On through life, let come what may,
He’ll be there to lead the way.
When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
“Have no fear, for I am near.”
When my work on earth is done,
And life’s victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I’ll understand His love.
I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
