Day of the Lord

DAY OF THE LORD: The visitation of God's judgment on His enemies.

DAY OF THE LORD: The visitation of God’s judgment on His enemies.

Throughout the Scriptures the Day of the Lord refers to the visitation of God’s judgment upon His enemies.  This phrase can refer to local judgment, the judgment of God upon the nations that surround Israel, and even the nation of Israel.  The judgment of God poured out upon select nations during Old Testament times points to and portends the final Day of the Lord, when the Judge of all the earth will judge the world in righteousness and the people with His truth (Psalm 96:13).

There are two passages in the New Testament which describe the Day of the Lord in great detail, but which involve two different time periods.  The first passage found in 1 Thessalonians foretells the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His church and then afterward His just punishment poured out upon the world which embraces Satan and hates God.  The next passage located in 2 Peter prophesies the judgment of God upon the world which rejects the Lord Jesus Christ’s reign upon the earth after being deceived by Satan.  This second Day of the Lord destroys the current creation with fire and ushers in the new heavens and the new earth.  The passages out of 1 Thessalonians and 2 Peter are further elucidated by verses out of Revelation.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,  with the voice of an arch angel, and with the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And thus we shall always be with the Lord.  Therefore comfort one another with these words.  But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write you.  For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.  For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman.  And they shall not escape.  But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.  You are all sons of light and sons of the day.  We are not of the night nor of darkness…For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.  1 Thessalonians 4:14-5:5 & 9

The wrath of God poured upon the world is detailed in Revelation, relating to the Day of the Lord, the rapture of the church and God’s judgment poured out upon an evil world, specifically in Revelation 19.

6And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia!  For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!  7“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him gory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”  8And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.  9Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”  10And I fell at his feet to worship him.  But he said to me, “See that you do not do that!  I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus.  Worship God!  For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”  11Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.  12His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.  He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.  13He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called the Word of God.  14And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.  15Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations.  16And He himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on the, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”  19And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.  20Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.  These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.  21And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse.  And all the birds were filled with their flesh.  Revelation 19:6-21

These verses reveal to us the first occurrence of the Day of the Lord, we will next look at the second reference to the Day of the Lord.

Peter in Second Peter the third chapter refutes those who reject the coming of our Lord to righteously judge this wicked world.  Peter passes over Christ’s coming in glory to destroy the Antichrist’s demonic kingdom and to set up His millennial kingdom upon this earth and jumps to the final fiery judgment of God upon sinners snared by Satan who reject the benevolent rule of Christ and prefer instead the devilish delights of godless living.  This occurs at the end of Christ’s millennial reign.   Peter links this promise of impending judgment with the outpouring of God’s wrath upon this evil world when He sent His global flood to destroy depraved sinners.  The promise of God’s final judgment and the creation of the new heavens and the new earth are the focus of Peter’s refutation of those who question the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

For this they willfully forget:  that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.  But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.  But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.  Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?  Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  2 Peter 3:5-13

“Throughout the Scriptures the Day of the Lord refers to the visitation of God’s judgment upon His enemies.”

This judgment of God upon those who reject His Christ and His righteousness is revealed in Revelation, specifically Revelation 20:1-21:1.

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.  But after these things he must be released for a little while.  And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them.  Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands.  And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.  But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished.  This is the first resurrection.  Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.  Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.  Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, God and Magog, to gather then together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.  They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.  And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.  The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.  And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.  Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away.  And there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened.  And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.  And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.  The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.  And they were judged, each one according to his works.  Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire.  This is the second death.  And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.  Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.  Also there was no more sea.  Revelation 20:1-21:1

This final judgment of God concludes His promises to the nation of Israel and His promise to set up a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.   Both instances of the Day of the Lord have to do with God’s judgment upon those who reject His Son Jesus Christ and embrace the enemy, Satan.  According to God’s Word after the great white throne judgment where sinners are judged by their evil deeds chronicled in books, the curse will no longer exist and God will dwell with us.

Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people.   God Himself will be with them and be their God.  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, or sorrow, nor crying.  There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”  Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”  And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”  And He said to me, “It is done!  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.  I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.  He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.”  Revelation 21:2-7  And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.  Revelation 22:3

This is our expectation as those who hold to Jesus Christ and to His Word.  All others can expect only the just judgment of God upon them and they will suffer for eternity in the eternal fire that never is extinguished with the devil and his cohorts.  It is fitting that this study of the ends concludes with the promise that we have of dwelling with God and serving Him for all eternity as His beloved sons and daughters.  As you see the fulfillment of the prophecies of the end times, look up expectantly for your redemptions draws near.  My we serve our God with glad expectation of His gracious redemption as we share His truth to His glory through the power of the Holy Spirit and for love of His Son Jesus Christ.  God bless you.

Not Appointed for Wrath

NOT APPOINTED FOR WRATH: What does it mean that believers will escape the wrath of God?

NOT APPOINTED FOR WRATH: What does it mean that believers will escape the wrath of God?

In 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians Paul, led by the Holy Spirit, teaches about the Second Coming of Christ.  The Lord’s return is addressed from three different aspects.   Paul states without equivocation that Jesus Christ will return and that we will be gathered to Him in 2 Thessalonians when writing to reassure the Thessalonian believers that Christ had not yet returned.

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.  2 Thessalonians 2:1-2

In order to reassure the Thessalonian believers that Christ had not come Paul revealed to them the events that would precede His return.

3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exaltshimself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.  5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?  6And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.  7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.  8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.  9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and will all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.   2 Thessalonians 2:3-12

The descent of this world into the willful wicked rejection of the truth and the subsequent adoration and worship of the Antichrist, along with the murderous persecution of those who belong to Jesus Christ, will be the culminating sinfulness  which evokes the wrath of the Lord Jesus Christ upon this disbelieving apostate world.

3We are bound to thank God always for you brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, 4so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, 5which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer, 6since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  9These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.   2 Thessalonians 1:3-10

This just wrath of God is poured out upon the reprobate condemned because they love the evil one and despise the Lord of glory.  Those who belong to Christ are not appointed to God’s wrath.  We who are alive when the rapture occurs will be caught up with Christ in the air along with those who have died as believers.

15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.  16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.  And the dead in Christ will rise first.  17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write you.  2For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.  3For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman.  And they shall not escape.  4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.  5You are all sons of light and sons of the day.  We are not of the night nor of darkness…9For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.  1 Thessalonians 4:14-5:5 & 9

Paul teaches in the letters to the Thessalonians that Jesus Christ will return after the Antichrist is revealed and He will pour out His wrath upon this corrupt world.  He also teaches that we will be gathered to Jesus Christ and that we are not appointed for His wrath.  We will meet the Lord in the air before He comes to pour out His wrath upon this unbelieving world.  We will be with the Lord in heaven during the tribulation that God will send upon this earth as prelude to the destruction of the Antichrist and his kingdom.

When Christ returns, we will return with Him and accompany Him as He pours out His wrath upon this depraved and wicked world.  The church is not mentioned after Revelation chapter three until Christ comes to this earth to judge the wicked.

Judgmentt from the sky

There are those within the church who teach contrary to what the Bible says and they actually speak against those who are waiting for Christ to come.  They twist the Scriptures to their own destruction and lead many astray and ignore the Scriptures which teach us that we will be gathered to Christ before the tribulation which is the beginning of God’s wrath upon an evil world system.  Those who believe that the “church” can usher in the kingdom of God on this earth are on a fool’s errand and are actually working with the enemy, assisting his deceitful schemes. The true heart of belief waits and longs for Christ to return as it endures with patience persecutions and tribulations because of faith in Jesus Christ.

The purpose of Christ’s return is to gather His redeemed to Himself and execute the wrath of God upon this unbelieving world.  When Christ comes in glory with His saints and His mighty angels He will destroy all those who oppose Him and His Father.  We are to await the return of Christ for His own, sharing the gospel with those who don’t know Christ, encouraging one another with love and good works, knowing that Christ will establish His kingdom on this earth for His glory at His return.  May God bless us as we wait for Him.

The Same Old Same Old

SAME OLD SAME OLD: Is this world a paradise--or as the Days of Noah and Lot were?

SAME OLD SAME OLD: Is this world a paradise–or as the Days of Noah and Lot were?

Jesus Christ described the predominate preoccupation of humanity prior to His return.

Luke 17:26-30 “And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man:  They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.  Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot:  They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, the built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.  Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.”

If we look at the heart condition of mankind in the days of Noah and when Lot dwelt in Sodom, we will get a clearer picture of the human condition before Jesus Christ comes back to this earth.

5Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  7So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.  Genesis 6:5-7  20And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave.   21I will go down not and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.”….4Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. 5 And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight?  Bring them out that we may know them carnally.”  6So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, 7and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!  8See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”  9And they said, “Stand back!”  Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.”  So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.  10But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.  11And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.  Genesis 18:20-21 & 19:4-11

The inhabitants of this earth will be engaged in normal human activity while living wickedly depraved lives and will not give a moment’s thought to the possibility of their impending doom because of their wickedness.  They will greatly resent and be hostile against the believers call to them to repent and turn from their wicked ways.  Our world is in the same condition as it was when God poured out His judgment and wrath upon evildoers.  We are headed towards even greater depravity as made clear by the news of our day.  The Word of God also gives the spiritual condition of the majority within the church in a number of verses.

“If we look at the heart condition of mankind in the days of Noah and when Lot dwelt in Sodom, we will get a clearer picture of the human condition before Jesus Christ comes back to this earth.”

In 2 Thessalonians God tells us that the great apostasy which will prevail upon the earth will give rise to the Antichrist.

1Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.  13But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  15Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught whether by word or our epistle. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-15

The religious unbelievers are those who fall away.  They are those who reject the uncompromising standard of God’s truth, which is the Word of God, the Bible, and they give way to devious doctrines of demons delivered by depraved duplicitous deceivers.  They have itching ears only desiring what they want to hear and liars whose consciences are seared as with a hot iron are happy to oblige.

13But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived…3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.  2 Timothy 3:13 & 4:3-4

And so we are given the declination of mankind before the return of Christ.  The horror of this ungodliness will be righted when Christ sets His kingdom up upon this earth at His second coming.  The time for Christ’s return is approaching quickly.

The kingdom that Jesus Christ will establish upon this earth for one thousand years will be marked by holiness, harmony and peace, the exact opposite of what we have now.

17“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.  18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy.  19I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying.  20No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; For the child shall die one hundred years old, But the sinner being one hundred years shall be accursed.  21They shall build houses and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.  22They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat;  For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of My people, and My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.  23They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.  24It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear.  25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent’s food.  They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” Says the Lord.

Jesus Christ shall rule this world in righteousness from His exalted throne in Jerusalem.  There will still be those who reject and rebel against Christ, but they will be dealt with swiftly and justly.

Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing?  2The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His anointed, saying, 3“Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.”  4He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.  5Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure:  6“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”  7“I will declare the decree:  The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.  8Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.  9You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’” 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed you judges of the earth.  11Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling.  12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way.  When His wrath is kindled but a little.  Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.  Psalm 2

The ultimate rebellion will come at the end of the thousand year reign when Satan is released from the pit and he deceives the nations once more to reject the Lord.  But they will all meet their just demise.

4And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them.  Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands.  And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.  5But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished.  This is the first resurrection.  6Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.  Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.  7Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea.  9They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city.  And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.  10The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.  And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.    Revelation 20:1-10

None of these events have taken place yet, but we can be sure, that just as the Scripture was fulfilled when Christ came to this earth the first time, so will it be fulfilled when He returns physically to destroy the wicked kingdom of the Antichrist and then set up His glorious kingdom of righteousness.

The imminent return of Jesus Christ to this earth is the believers blessed hope.  Our great desire is to see our beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the flesh.  Those who lie and say that He is already ruling and reigning upon this earth have a big problem to deal with, and that is reality.

Which scenario does our world most approximate at this time, the scenario given by Christ before His return, or the scenario of Christ ruling physically upon this earth?  Those who are honest will admit that our world looks like the evil scenes presented to us in Genesis.  The evil will continue until He returns to destroy it and establish righteousness.  As the beloved of the Lord let us work for Him and look for His return.  Let us share the gospel, give to the poor, love one another, do good to one another, and look up for our redemption draws nigh.  May God bless us to live for Him and His glory.

The Kingdom of This World

THE KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD:

THE KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD: Satan is still the god of this world for a little while longer.

God sovereignly rules from the Throne of Heaven.  Jesus Christ is at the right hand of God the Father ruling and reigning with Him.

10All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, And Your saints shall bless You.  11They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, 12To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.  13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.  Psalm 145:10-13  But to the son He says:  “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;  A scepter or righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.”  Hebrews 1:8

Why then is it necessary for Christ to return to set up His kingdom here upon this earth?  Because this world belongs to Satan, and will until Christ returns physically to destroy the Antichrist, along with his evil kingdom, bind Satan for one thousand years and set up His righteous kingdom upon this earth with its seat of governance located in Jerusalem.  We will look at the verses found throughout the Bible that verify what has been specified in this opening statement.

Throughout the Scriptures we are confronted with the assertion that Satan rules this fallen world system.  The oldest book in the Bible, Job, portrays the enemy’s possession of the evil sphere in which we live.

7Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also come among them.  And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”  So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”  8Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” Job 1:7-8

Here we see Satan’s claim to the earth without any refutation from the Lord.  How did Satan lay claim to the earth?  It happened after he fell and then deceived Adam and Eve in order to destroy the height of God’s creation and usurp their ownership of the earth.

26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the se, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”  Genesis 1:26

17Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’:  “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.  18Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.  19In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”  Genesis 3:17-19

We saw from the verses out of Job that Satan rules this world.  This truth is taught by the Lord Jesus Christ in John chapter 17.

15“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.  16They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”  John 17:15-16

This truth is expressly stated in  1 John 5:19 We know that we are of god, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

There are two kingdoms existing in this age of grace, the kingdom of God comprised of His beloved redeemed saints, and the kingdom of Satan comprised of the lost, whether religious or not

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen  Galatians 1:3-5  ‘I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ Acts 26:17-18

Satan is the ruler of this fallen world system and Jesus Christ will receive back the kingdom of the world when He returns to destroy the Antichrist’s kingdom and bind Satan for one thousand years.

It is unfortunate that fallen man has perverted the clear Word of God by adulterating it with doctrines that undermine the doctrine that Jesus Christ will return to this world physically to wrest back its ownership to mankind through the ruler ship of God.  The initiation comes after Satan and his demons are cast out of heaven.

7And war broke out in heaven:  Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.  9So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.  10Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.  11And they overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.  12Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them!  Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea!  For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”  Revelation 12:7-12

Satan then sets up his Antichrist on earth and all mankind worships the beast, the dragon, and are deceived by the false prophet.

4So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast?  Who is able to make war with him?”  5And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.  6Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.  7It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.  And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.   8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 13:4-8

The beast, Antichrist, receives his authority from Satan, because Satan has transferred it to him.  Here we see the clash of the two kingdoms, the kingdom of Antichrist makes war with and overcomes the saints.  If anyone does not belong to Jesus Christ then they belong to the Antichrist and worship him and will share in his eternal damnation.  The kingdom of Satan is overthrown and destroyed when Jesus Christ returns in glory with His saints and angels.

11Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  16And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.  17Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.”  19And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.  20Then the beast was captures, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.  These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.  21And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse.  And all the birds were filled with their flesh.  1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having he key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  2He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.  But after these things he must be released for a little while.  Revelation 19:11-20:3

There are many who twist the Scriptures to say that Jesus Christ is already reigning here on earth, but the Scriptures are clear that Satan is the ruler of this dark age, and only when Christ Jesus returns we he be dethroned and the rightful righteous King ascend to His glorious throne to rule His kingdom for one thousand years.

Do not believe the lie that there are numerous acceptable doctrines regarding the return of Christ.  You do so to your own peril.  The enemy is using the lie that Christ is already here to lull many into a false sense of peace and prepare them for the acceptance of the Antichrist.  Let us not embrace the lie that orthodoxy is defined by accepting variant teachings on the return of Christ, or being tolerant of this twisting of Scripture.

Let us as the beloved redeemed of the Lord whose names are written in the Book of Life of the Lamb reject the lie and contend for the truth of Christ soon return.  May God equip us for standing true to Him for His glory and the blessing of the brethren.

Watching and Waiting

WATCHING AND WAITING: Jesus is coming back! Are you ready?

WATCHING AND WAITING: Jesus is coming back! Are you ready?

The false teaching which says that Jesus Christ is already reigning on earth is disproved by the Word of God in numerous verses throughout the Scriptures.  God, through His servant Paul, revealed what would precede the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him.

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.  3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  2 Thessalonians 2:1-10

The falling away, the great apostasy, will occur before the rise of the Antichrist, the son of perdition, to make the way smooth for his ascendancy.  The end time apostasy preceding the arrival of the Antichrist is marked by unrighteous deception and rejection of the truth.  The falling away and the rise of the Antichrist are judgments upon this fallen world.  And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.  2 Thessalonians 2:11-12  The final judgment of God is realized when Jesus Christ returns and destroys the Antichrist and his kingdom.  We are taught throughout the Scriptures about the Antichrist.

The book of Daniel gives prophecy about the Antichrist.  19“Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet; 20and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.  21I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints and prevailing against them, 22until the Ancient of Days came and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.  23“Thus he said:  ‘The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all other kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces.  24The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom.  And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings.  25He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law.  Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.  26But the court shall be seated, And they shall take away his dominion, To consume and destroy it forever.  27Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High.  His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.’  Daniel 7:19-27

Three times it is prophesied in the Scriptures that this pompous wicked ruler of the earth, empowered by the devil,  will set up his image in the Temple of God.

“God, through His servant Paul, revealed what would precede the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him. “

9And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land.  10And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them.  11He even exalted himself as high as the prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.  12Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground.  He did all this and prospered.  Daniel 8:9-12  24“Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, To make an end of sins,  To make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.  25Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.  26And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.  The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.  27Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.  And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”  Daniel 9:24-27

31“And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.  32Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.  33And those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering…..36”Then the king shall do according to his own will:  he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.  Daniel 11:31-33 & 36

Jesus speaks of this abomination of desolation in Matthew 24:15 and Mark 13:14:

“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand). & So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”

Jesus warned about the ‘abomination of desolation’ in reference to His Second coming.  We are again instructed about the Antichrist from Revelation chapter thirteen which focuses on and foretells the counterfeit reign of the Antichrist upon the earth in the place of Jesus Christ and his blasphemy directed toward heaven.

4So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast?  Who is able to make war with him?”  5And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.  6Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.  7It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.  And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. …15He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.  Revelation13:4-7 & 15

We continuously witness the rise of blasphemy against our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from without and within the church.  The world is being made ready for the righteous wrath and indignation of Almighty God that is poured out through these terrible judgments of apostasy and worship of the Antichrist.  God has promised to deliver us from the wrath to come through the rapture of the church.

15For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout,  with the voice of an arch angel, and with the trumpet of God. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-5:5 & 9

Since we reject the evil of this world system through faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we are not destined for this judgment.  Those saved during the tribulation period will be the fruit of the supernatural work of God through His chosen instruments, the 144,000 of the children of Israel sent as witnesses throughout the earth.

4And I heard the number of those who were sealed.  One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed:… 9After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our god who sits on the throne and to the Lamb!”  Revelation 7:4 & 9-10

The outpourings of the wrath of God through the trumpet and bowl judgments will culminate with the return of Jesus Christ and His destruction of the Antichrist and his armies.

19And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. Revelation 19:19-21

As we see the acceleration of apostasy let us ever be ready for the return of our Lord and Savior for His beloved, that is His redeemed church, by staying true to Him as we share the truth of the gospel and the promise of His return.  God bless you for this ministry through His Son Jesus Christ by His Holy Spirit.

Replaced?

REPLACED? Is God done with the nation of Israel? What does the Bible say?

REPLACED? Is God done with the nation of Israel? What does the Bible say?

Does the Bible teach that God is done with the nation of Israel and all of the promises given to Israel throughout the Old Testament are actually for the church?  There is not one verse in the Scriptures that supports this erroneous teaching.  On the contrary, God makes it clear throughout the Bible the Jews have been and always will be His special chosen people.

The second chapter of Ephesians makes plain that Israel is beloved by God, and our Heavenly Father, in His infinite mercy and grace, has incorporated the Gentiles into the His promises given to the nation of Israel through faith in Jesus Christ.

11Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh-who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands-12that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.  13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.  14For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16and that he might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

17And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.  18For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.  19Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with saints and members of the household of God, 20having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.  Ephesians 2:11-22

Paul makes clear that God considers those saved from the nation of Israel by faith in Christ Jesus are, in a sense, distinct from the Gentiles, though saved in like manner, because of the spiritual privileges and blessings bequeathed to them as children of Abraham.  Notice that in verse eighteen Paul says, For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.  He refers to the Jews and Gentiles through the word both, indicating that God is still dealing with His chosen people, the nation of Israel.

Initially, the gospel of salvation came exclusively to the Jews until Cornelius and his household was added to the redeemed13“And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call from Simon whose surname is Peter, 14who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’  15“And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.

16Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’  17“If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”  18When they heard these things they became silent; “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”  Acts 11:13-18

The gospel was first preached to the Jews, then the Samaritans, and finally the Gentiles.  Jesus said to His apostles before He ascended, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  Acts 1:8  The church is fulfillment of this commission, but that doesn’t mean that Israel is replaced by the church in the overall plan and purposes of God.

It is important that we remember the blessings that God has bestowed upon mankind have come down to us through the nation of Israel.

I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 2that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.  3For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, 4who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; 5of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.  Romans 9:1-5

What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?  2Much in every way!  Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God.  3For what if some did not believe?  Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?  4Certainly not!  Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.  Romans 3:1-4

Israel, God’s chosen people, was selected from among all the nations of the world, to be God’s special people to display His glory and be a conduit of His grace.  And He has displayed His glory through the nation of Israel though they have often been rebellious and disobedient to Him, even rejecting the promised Messiah.  Even this was to God’s glory and praise

22“Men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know-23Him being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;24“whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

25For David says concerning Him:  ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face For he is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.  26Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest n hope.  27For You will not leave my soul in Hades Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.  28You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’

29“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.  30Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.  32This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

33Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy  Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.  34For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:  ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, 35Till make Your enemies Your footstool.”’  36Therefore let house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”  Acts 2:22-36.

Through this violent act of disobedient rejection salvation became possible for all who believe because Christ was crucified for us as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29) as prophesied in the Scriptures, the oracles of God given to the Jews.   And though the Jews rejected their Savior, not believing what God said to them in His Word, it was to the house of Israel that salvation first came as Peter preached on that day of Pentecost.

If God fulfilled His promise to the Jews to bring them the Messiah through the lineage of David so that they could have their sins forgiven and be reconciled to Him, and if God has blessed the Gentiles with saving faith as promised through the oracles of God given to the nation of Israel, why would we believe that He would then negate all of His promises to the Jews to save the nation and have His Son rule upon the earth from Jerusalem?   Their rejection of Jesus Christ is for the blessing of the Gentiles until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.  Paul explains this very thing in Romans chapter eleven.

11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall?  Certainly not!  But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.  12Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!  13For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry 14if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.  15For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?  16For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy, and if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, 18do not boast against the branches.  But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

19You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.”  20Well said.  Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith.  Do not be haughty, but fear.  21For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.  22Therefore consider the goodness and the severity of God:  on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness.   Otherwise you also will be cut off.  23And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.  24For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?  25For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

26And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:  “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”  28Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.  29For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.  Romans 9:11-29

God’s Word is clear, He is not done with Israel.  He is at this time calling out a people for Himself out of the Gentile nations as promised in the Old Testament.  He has also promised in the Old Testament corporate salvation of the nation of Israel when Jesus Christ returns as their Messiah delivering them from their enemies.  We boast against Israel to our own harm.

Many Scriptures point to Christ’s return to redeem and rescue the Jews from the destruction determined against them by the surrounding nations.  Zechariah chapters twelve and fourteen give us insight into what will occur at that time.

9“It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.  10And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced.  Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

11In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.  12And the land shall mourn, every family by itself:  the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves;13 the family of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves;14 all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves. 1 In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.  Zechariah 12:9-13:1

Since Jesus during His first appearance did not seek to destroy all the nations coming against Jerusalem, this corporate salvation of the Jews occurs at Christ’s Second Coming when He defends and saves His people, the nation of Israel.  The return of Christ is foretold in Zechariah 14:3-5:

3Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle.  4And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east.  And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.  5Then you shall flee through My mountain valley For the mountain valley shall reach Azal.  Yes, you shall flee As you fled from the earthquake In the days of Uzziah king of Judah.   Thus the Lord my God will come, and all the saints with You.

This is the same mount that Jesus ascended into heaven from, and the angels told His apostles, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven?  This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”  Acts  1:11

He will return physically to fight for and save His people Israel.   Notice in verse five of Zechariah chapter fourteen, that the saints will be with Him, this prophesy is repeated in Revelation 19:14 When Jesus comes to fight against and destroy the nations attacking His people Israel.   And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.  Romans chapter nine, Zechariah chapters twelve and fourteen, and Revelation chapter nineteen clearly reveal that God is not finished with His people, the nation of Israel.

Those who twist the Scriptures, ignoring the vast number of verses in which God promises to save His people  physically and spiritually are doing the exact thing that Paul warned against when he told the Gentile believers not to be haughty against Israel, but rather to fear and hold fast to Christ through faith.  We must be obedient to the Scriptures and believe what God tells us in His Word, rejecting the vain opinions of men that oppose the truth of God.  To accept and approve these false doctrines leads to grievous error within the body of Christ and great harm to many hapless souls who fall under the influence of destructive doctrines.

Christ’s Return

CHRIST'S RETURN: The Return of Our Lord Jesus Christ

CHRIST’S RETURN: The Return of Our Lord Jesus Christ

There are those who hold to a false view of the return of Christ and His reign upon this earth.  They believe that Jesus Christ has already returned and is now ruling and reigning upon this earth.  The fact that prior to Christ’s return there will be great upheaval in the cosmos and that all eyes will see Him as He comes in clouds in the glory of His power with His saints and angles doesn’t seem to faze the adherents  to this vain speculation in the least.

Read what Jesus Christ said about His return in Mark 13:19-27

19“For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.  20And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.  21Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look He is there!’ do not believe it.  22For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.  23But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.  24But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.  26Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.  27And then He will send his angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.

Christ warns that there will be false christs and false prophets, an indication that He hasn’t returned yet since the false cannot stand when the True is visibly present.  This is reiterated by Paul in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 which he wrote to refute the claim by some that Christ had already come.

Now brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and out gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.  Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called god or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.  2 Thessalonians 2:1-4

Falsehood and lies have been broadcast about since the early church, but the spread has increased at a frenzied frequency so that it is almost impossible to find any corner of the visible church not tainted and corrupted by devilish doctrines.  We are at this time in the midst of the great falling away and we can expect the Antichrist to arise on the scene at any time.  Jesus Himself affirmed the appearance of the Antichrist before His return .

So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”  Mark 13:14

Except for the increase in damning doctrines of demons, the appearance of the Antichrist and the cosmic upheaval have not happened as foretold to us by Christ and Paul.  Therefore Christ has not physically returned to this earth.

God has revealed to us that Christ will physically return to our planet to rule and reign in numerable places throughout the Scriptures.

6Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying “Lord will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”  7And He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times of seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  9Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven?  This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”  Acts 1:6-11

When the disciples asked about the restoration of the kingdom to Israel Jesus said they were to be witnesses to Him as they spread abroad the good news of the gospel by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.  Jesus reassured them they could trust the Father to restore the kingdom by His authority at the times and seasons that He had set.  Jesus Christ has called all of us to share in the work of spreading the gospel during this age of grace while we await His bodily return in glory as prophesied by the angels to the disciples.

After Christ returns He will set up His kingdom upon this earth as prophesied in both the Old and New Testament.  We can read about Christ’s reign upon this earth in Psalm 2.

It is evident that Christ will physically reign upon this earth from these verses. We can also ascertain from the world around us that the attitude of the rulers expressed in this passage nowhere approximates what we know to be the attitude of our present day rulers.  They pay Christ, for the most part, a feigned respect, if they consider Him at all!  No, the attitude displayed by the rulers in the verses above obviously arises from the presence of the great King upon this earth!

It is important to note that verse 9 from Psalm 2 is repeated in the book of Revelation of Jesus Christ three times.  In chapter two of Revelation Jesus Christ gives this promise to those who overcome:  “But hold fast what you have till I come.  And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations-‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’-as I also have received from My Father; Revelation 2:25-27.

This is an obvious reference to Psalm 2 which shows Christ on earth physically ruling the nations.  This promise is also given to those who overcome in His church, that they too will rule and reign with Christ during His millennial reign.

The next reference verse 9 in Psalm 2 is found is Revelation 12:5: She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron.  And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.   If this verse is then linked with Revelation 19:11-16

The promise of Christ’s physical reign upon this earth is evident.

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.  He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.  He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called the Word of God.  And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.  Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations.  And He himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. After the beast and false prophet are cast into the lake of fire, Jesus Christ will rule on this earth for one thousand years. Revelation 20:4-5

This is the time when Christ will physically reign upon this earth.  Our glorious Savior will defeat His enemies and then establish His kingdom upon this earth!

Christ’s  judgment upon the wicked and His rule and reign upon this earth at His second coming is directly linked to the work that He did during His earthly ministry in regards to salvation.  Paul states this in Acts 17: 30-31 “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained.  He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Isaiah chapter eleven also directly links His work of salvation with His right to judge and rule on this earth.  Just as He came physically to save us so too will He appear physically to judge the world in righteousness and set up His kingdom in Jerusalem.

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  2The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.  3His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears; 4But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.  5Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.  6“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them.  7The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.  8The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.  9They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.  10And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious.”  Isaiah 11:1-10

Christ first comes as Savior, He then returns to judge and destroy His enemies, and then physically rule and reign here on earth.

Isaiah chapter sixty-five further expands upon the peaceful reign of Jesus Christ upon this earth.

Is Jerusalem considered a place of rejoicing and her people a joy at this time?  No, not really.  Jerusalem is a divided city encompassed about by her enemies, with cries for her destruction filling the air.  However, with Christ ruling and reigning from Jerusalem, during this glorious time of peace, harmony and longevity, Jerusalem will then be a city of rejoicing and her people a joy.

In last part of verse 20 we see Christ ruling with a rod of iron, the sinner will not live long.  All will answer to Christ, but His benevolent reign will be marked with great blessings, contentment, knowledge of God, and His intimate involvement in the lives of His beloved.  No more sorrow or destruction.  True peace and safety from God is described in both Isaiah 11 and 65, “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” Says the Lord.  There is nothing extant upon this earth that in anyway approximates Christ’s glorious kingdom on earth.

Believers have been awaiting the imminent return of Christ for millennia.  This might pose a problem when we look at the opening passages of Revelation chapter 1.  The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants-things which must shortly take place.  And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.  3Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.  Revelation 1:1-3

This connotation of Christ’s soon return is also expressed by Paul and Peter in their epistles. 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 and But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.  1 Peter 4:7

However, God  led His apostles to teach us about the forthcoming of our Lord’s return.  First, the Antichrist, whom Christ will destroy with the brightness of His coming and consume with the breath of His mouth, is being restrained until he is revealed in his own time.  (2 Thessalonians 2:6 & 8) There is a specific time for the Antichrist come upon the scene.  Once the son of perdition has appeared and declared himself to be God, then and only then will Jesus Christ come to destroy him and all of His enemies.  Second, our concept of time is not the same as God’s concept of time.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9.

God withholds final judgment for the salvation of souls, at this time.  So we can see there is no contradiction in the imminence of Christ’s return and the duration between His first and second coming.  God’s longsuffering is for our salvation.

Finally as believers we have the promise given us that we will be with Christ when He returns and escape the wrath of God poured out upon this evil world system.

For those who twist what is so evident in Scripture be warned by what Peter says about those who scoff at or misrepresent the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nevertheless, we according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot, blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of the Lord is salvation-as also our beloved broth Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.  You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be glory both now and forever.  Amen.  2 Peter 3:14-18

Don’t let wicked workers lead you away from the truth of the Scriptures by their mishandling of God’s Word and twisting it to their own destruction.  We look for Jesus Christ to return exactly as God has told us in His Word.  As we await seeing our glorious Savior may we be mindful to grow to know Him more and more and increasingly rest in His grace until we see Him face to face.

FEAR of the LORD

“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.”
–Proverbs 16:6

Watchmen on the Walls

"Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;"

watchman-wall-pd "Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand."
