The Foreknowledge of God part 1 – Since this subject has been discussed lately in these parts, this series is eagerly looked forward to.
And here is where we get into the weeds. Here is when some of the more in-your-face holders of the Calvinist doctrine will come out of the woodwork and call me a heretic, one who is irredeemably reprobate, and one whose doctrine is evermore erroneous to the utmost.

Should the Book of Tobit be included in the Bible?
A friend of mine was reading some ancient texts (Book of Jasher, Book of Enoch) and the information he found got me interested in ancient texts as well. After reading a chapter of Jasher, I started poking around in other ancient texts, and ended up digging into the seven books that were deleted from the Protestant Bible, but remain in the Catholic Bible.
Well, another plea for extra-biblical texts. The author says that Tobit was removed by Martin Luther. Tobit was never a part of the early Church canon, which was established fairly early in the game.
Referring to the Books of Jasher and Enoch: they are filled with contradictions, not only to Biblical texts, but to each other! They are a classic gnostic blend of confusion and entertainment.
Our current times in which we live are filled with unending pleas to add this and add that–as if the state of apostasy wasn’t bad enough already.
The Book of Jasher – Here’s a plea for the Book of Jasher. Jasher was lost and “found”–like so many other discoveries which contradict the Bible–in the 1700s. Supposedly, the one cited here is “faithfully translated from the original Hebrew.” That’s like saying that it’s okay to study Jewish witchcraft because you have a text which was faithfully translated from the original Hebrew of the Kaballah.
Sir Isaac Newton’s Daniel and the Apocalypse – (h/t:B) Here’s a piece making the case for Sir Isaac Newton, who was most definitely part of the mystery of iniquity. Newton did study the Bible–but not as the Word of God. Newton studied the Bible as a way to wring secret information useful for the eventual ascension of antichrist spirits and personalities.
Does God talk to His people today?
6 Symptoms of a Dysfunctional Church – Dysfunction is not always a bad thing. There are a great many churches–wholly given over to apostasy– whose dysfunction impedes the work of the antichrist spirits which have laid hold of them. Jesus, Paul, John and Peter, among others, tell believers of the lukewarm, apostate condition of the Church in the end times. To the degree to which this church is dysfunctional, it appears that is a blessing from God.
The Foreknowledge of God, part 1 – A much-needed tackling of a subject which has been largely left to false teachers.

Don’t be envious of the wicked – Excellent advice for the times in which we live. The Bible warns us that the wicked will be exalted throughout the entire planet. To be envious of them is not only a sin, but distracting believers from their true mission. Watch! Warn! Preach the gospel!

Thank you for the link to my post, “Tobit, or not Tobit? That is the question.”
Nowhere in my post do I suggest that Jasher or Enoch be included in the canon, or for that matter, that anyone should even bother reading them. I merely wrote that my friend was reading them, which piqued my interest in them.
And yes, the Book of Tobit absolutely was deleted from the Bible by Martin Luther. It’s surprising he found time between his antisemitic rantings against God’s people to give himself permission to tear seven books out of God’s word. The canon that included Tobit was affirmed by the Council of Hippo (393), the Council of Carthage (397), the Council of Florence (1438), and the Council of Trent (1545). I do not disregard this much affirmation of canon upon the word of one antisemitic lunatic.
Blessings, and thanks again!

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
The linked piece was included because it was instructive.
No, you do not do so explicitly. You absolutely make the case for Tobit.
However, after questioning Tobit’s omission from canon, you elevate Jasher and Enoch by lumping them together with Tobit under the classification of “other ancient texts.” You are making the distinction between these books in your comment; however, there was no such distinction between these books made in your article.
Tobit, as well as Jasher and Enoch, are regarded in this paragraph as “other ancient texts.” You specifically equate Jasher and the “other ancient texts.”
I am not a fan of Luther–at all. However, canon was fairly quickly settled in the early church (no later than mid-200s). Yes, there were questions in this locale or that, but the 27 books which make up the New Testament were universally accepted more than a century before the councils at Hippo and Carthage.
It’s surprising you would include as one of the four “much affirmation of canon”: the Council of Trent (1545). The Council was convened for the purpose of launching the Counter-Reformation and, in addition to affirming the legitimacy of Tobit (and the other non-canonical books), also affirmed the following decrees:
CANON 9: “If any one saith, that by faith alone the impious is justified; in such wise as to mean, that nothing else is required to co-operate in order to the obtaining the grace of Justification, and that it is not in any way necessary, that he be prepared and disposed by the movement of his own will; let him be anathema.”
CANON 12: “If any one shall say that justifying faith is nothing else than confidence in the divine mercy pardoning sins for Christ’s sake, or that it is that confidence alone by which we are justified . . . let him be accursed”
These directly contradict Scripture, particularly the entire Book of Romans as well as Ephesians 2:8-9.
So let’s just forget about using Trent to “affirm” anything other than the earthly political agenda of that earthly political kingdom known as the Roman Catholic Church.
Allow me to post some finding as well.
SPECIFICALLY, Tobit claims an angel lies [He says he is Azariah, the son of Ananias (Tobit 5:12). Later, he claims to be Raphael, the angel of the Lord (Tobit 12:15.]
Tobit 6:1-8 has the angel describe a magical prescription for driving away demons and evil spirits involving the smoke of fish parts. This directly contradicts the many passages of Scripture which point to Jesus Christ as our sole deliverance from Satan and his evil minions.
Tobit 12:12-13 has the angel keeping part of a man’s prayers, at the angel’s discretion to use for angel’s purpose. This clearly contradicts the finished work of Jesus Christ as well as elevating this “angel” to the level of God Almighty. He receives part of the prayers which are to be received by the Father alone.
The non-canonical books are only a clever way of asking “Hath God said…?” That question was asked at humanity’s beginning and will continue to be asked until Jesus returns.
You are absolutely right to claim that various councils of men later added Tobit and others to their lists of “canon.” You absolutely have the right to your doubts.
I am absolutely right to address those doubts when they attempt to add to God’s Word. All books which undermine the settled Word of God by introducing contradiction and doubt are used by the mystery of iniquity as forms of alternative authority. These books contradict Scripture in some way. They create doubt where there is no doubt. That doubt begins when men seek for knowledge outside the Scriptures and then attempt to elevate that knowledge to the authority of Scripture. The apostles fought tooth-and-nail against such false authority and the false teachers who introduce it.
The elevation of extra-biblical authority continues today. In fact, there is quite a lot of that taking place these days.
Once again, thank you taking the time to leave a comment.

Dear alwaysproventrue,
Jeremiah has answered you ably but I would just ask some questions.
Why all of this looking to other texts and questioning the canon of Scripture now, when confusion is rampant both in the world and in the Church? It’s cruel on the part of those who promote other texts and question the canon. It’s damaging.
Also, all the talk about Luther and Calvin has helped me to stand back from following men, and I’m grateful for that, because they all erred in part and we shouldn’t share in their sins.
However, you shouldn’t say that Martin Luther was an antisemitic lunatic. Are you standing for the Lord in your day, as he did in his? You need to have grace in all you say!

“In the New Testament, the universal salvific will of God is closely connected to the sole mediation of Christ: ‘[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ, who gave himself as a ransom for all’ (1 Tim 2:4-6).” (Cardinal Ratzinger, Dominus Jesus, n. 13)
“Vatican II adds that the Church is ‘a sacrament. . . of the unity of all mankind.’ [Lumen Gentium, n. 1] Obviously it is a question of the unity — which the human race which in itself is differentiated in various ways — has from God and in God. This unity has its roots in the mystery of creation and acquires a new dimension in the mystery of the Redemption, which is ordered to universal salvation. Since God ‘wishes all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth,’ [1 Tim 2:4] the Redemption includes all humanity and in a certain way all of creation. In the same universal dimension of Redemption the Holy Spirit is acting, by virtue of the ‘departure of Christ.’ Therefore the Church, rooted through her own mystery in the Trinitarian plan of salvation with good reason regards herself as the ‘sacrament of the unity of the whole human race.’ She knows that she is such through the power of the Holy Spirit, of which power she is a sign and instrument in the fulfillment of God’s salvific plan.” (Pope John Paul II, Dominum et Vivificantem, n. 64)
Therefore, no human person is unable to be saved by Christ and His Church. The offer of salvation from God to every created human person is part of the salvific plan of God. Regardless of what we hypothesize that God might have otherwise chosen, He did choose to offer salvation to the whole human race, to each and every human person.
Some theological positions are incompatible with the teaching of the Magisterium on the universal salvific will of God.
The view of Calvinism: God predestines some persons to Heaven, and other persons to Hell (double predestination). There is no pivotal role for free will in this view of predestination. Some persons are chosen by God to go to Hell, and others to Heaven, but neither choice of God is based on our cooperation with grace, nor on our personal sins. God’s grace is all-powerful, and therefore His grace cannot fail. We know that some persons do end up in Heaven, and others in Hell, so these final destinations must have been chosen by God, or else He would not be all-powerful. Why does God so choose? For reasons beyond what anyone can understand at all. Such is the claim of Calvinism, and of some Catholics who have fallen into Calvinistic errors.
To the contrary, God’s all-powerful grace is loving and humble and merciful. He does not use His grace to overpower free will; such is not the way with love. God wills that all human persons be saved. But given the fact that some persons freely choose to commit one or more actual mortal sins, and do not choose to repent, God wills not to take away or nullify their free will by His all-powerful grace. This is not the failure of grace, but the respect of grace for the free choice of the will. For God treats every sinner as a true human person, not as an object, and He does not nullify or marginalize the gifts of intellect and free will, which are what make us truly human and truly persons, rather than animals or objects.
But Calvin makes another serious error, one that is often overlooked. He holds that the choice of God concerning our salvation is so mysterious that it cannot be understood at all. To the contrary, mysteries that are beyond complete human comprehension are not beyond partial human apprehension. We are able to understand even the greatest mystery, the mystery of the Trinity, to a limited extent. Therefore, it is not true that the choices of God concerning our final destinations are beyond what anyone can understand, even partially. Calvin essentially proposes a complete separation between what faith and reason can understand and what God chooses concerning salvation. So he errs in this regard

Laura, if the Catholic Church believes that it is the Lord’s will to save all men – that is, to save them through the work of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ, why has Francis I made statements about salvation in which he includes atheists (who reject the Father and Son – the spirit of Antichrist), but excludes evangelicals because they personally directly believe in Jesus Christ? He has said that it is error to believe that we can personally directly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. He is on record about both these things:
inclusion of atheists
exclusion of evangelicals

Maria,
That’s one of the odd things (being raised a former Catholic) I noticed: there is salvation for Muslims; damnation for evangelicals. Now, there is salvation for atheists as well.
God bless you.
