IDOLS IN THE CHURCHES
THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO COUNTERFEIT CHRIST
We live in an age of deception.
Jesus warned that immediately before He returned, deception would be so widespread and so ubiquitous, that if it were possible, the “very elect” would be deceived.
The very elect haven’t seen anything yet.
So many are looking for the appearance of the false Messiah–and that man of sin will appear. But there’s more than one way to counterfeit a Christ; more than one way to counterfeit the Holy Spirit.
There are several reasons to counterfeit God–or rather the effect of God– using brain chemicals, manipulation of the environment and idols.
THE GOD EFFECT
The God Effect – Is God merely a combination of brain chemicals?
As I studied the brain, I found that the right arrangement of neural circuitry and chemistry could generate astonishingly creative and holy persons on the one hand, or profoundly delusional, even violent, fanatics on the other. To intensify the ‘god effect’ in people already attracted to religious ideas, my studies revealed, all we had to do was boost the activity of the neurotransmitter, dopamine, crucial for balanced emotion and thought, on the right side of the brain. But should dopamine spike too high, murderous impulses like terrorism and jihad could rear up instead.
Similar “scientific” assessments of religion (such as are found in the linked article) formed the basis in the old USSR of using science, medicine and psychiatry as instruments to torment Christians and Jews. IF “God” is merely a combination of brain chemicals, then an atheistic society would have an interest in manipulating those chemical balances in order to eradicate a potential challenges to the established order.
Eventually, God can be declared to be nothing more than a mental illness. Anyone believing in God in such a society would surely be crazy.
IF “God” can be reduced to a chemical formula and IF (as the linked article suggests) too much dopamine can bring on “terrorism and jihad” then humans can be tested for the mix of their brain stew and judged “murderous” (fundamental) or not. Obviously, the giver of such tests would be the state.
Americans have been programmed to equate “dangerous fundamentalism” with Muslims, and that deception will be kept up as long as it is useful. But there are underlying threats against any who are judged too “fundamental”–Bible-believing Christians included. And true believers–not Muslims– are the REAL target.
The Bible doesn’t say that unbelieving Muslims will be beheaded, but it is clear that followers of Jesus will be beheaded for their witness of Jesus.

CREATING A GOD
In 2014, many American churches have learned to manipulate the atmosphere to create illusions of the divine.

Idols fulfill depraved humanity’s need to substitute a god they can control for the One True God that is all-powerful and beyond their control.
When humans create their own gods, they have fashioned themselves idols, a practice the Bible expressly forbids. It matter little whether the idol is carved from wood, made with metal or conjured by electronic or chemical means. An idol can be a product of the deceptive manipulation of the environment.
The idea of a Chemical Messiah is not a new one. But the idea of a Chemical idol might be–at least to our present generation.
“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”
—Ecclesiastes 1:9
The Chymical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreutz is a 400-year-old book of alchemical lore. Alchemy and other sorceries have come back in style–as the Bible warned they would–just in time for the end times.
“Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
—Revelation 9:21
A lot of words have been expended warning of “idols” such as money, comfort and the such. In fact, pew-sitters have been “warned” of every idolatrous practice except that which is prevalent in many American churches: the substitution of an idol as the object of their worship.
Many who inhabit the church can no longer distinguish between the real God–God Almighty from the Bible; God the Creator of heaven and earth–and a god they have been fooled into worshiping every Sunday.
The god that many church-goers give their worship to every Sunday is not God Almighty. It’s a god who winks at their sin and wants to be their buddy. The god that many church-goers worship is a god who is not holy but like themselves. These false gods do not demand separation from the world or obedience to the commandments of God.
Which is why so many churches are so comfortable with another god. It’s also one reason so many cannot discern who they are worshiping.
THE TRUE THREAT FOR THE END TIMES
This all ties in with a deeper deception. The idea that atheism or an atheistic society will be the primary threat to true believers is a popular myth. The true threat to believers will not be an atheistic one but one that arises from a corrupted form of Christianity. This clever satanic counterfeit will fool most of the pew-sitters who inhabit the churches. They will be convinced they are worshiping the God of the Bible.
That event is already taking place in many American churches today.
IN FACT, one of the biggest deceptions of our time is the belief that deception is something that is a future event: something that is “coming.”
That is false.
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:“
—2 Thessalonians 2:7
Deception has been a fact of life for centuries though deception has gotten worse over the last 120 years or so. Because so many pew-sitters believe lies from the enemy, deception has permeated the Church.
The Bible promises that true believers will have the Holy Spirit indwelling them; that the Spirit will lead them into all truth. Because so many do not have the Spirit, they have no discernment. Which is one reason deception run rampant: few know what biblical discernment is.
Church-goers have been programmed for quite some time for the man of sin and his Church, which looks as it’s from God Almighty, but will speak like the dragon (Satan).
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
–Revelation 13:8
WHAT’S THE ANSWER?
What’s a believer to do in this age of deception?
Pray always.
Specifically pray to not be deceived. Back up the words of your prayer with action: do not take the words of men about what the Bible says.
Study God’s Word.
MAN OF SIN: The Man of Sin is Coming
During the coming climax of world events–which will separate the wheat from the tares–the Bible declares the only correct antidote. It doesn’t involve brain chemicals. It doesn’t involve “freedom” in worship.
The only antidote for the coming deception and the machinations of the man of sin?
The blood of the Lamb and the testimony of Jesus. The ultimate witness is martyrdom. “Martyr” means “witness” in the Greek.
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
–Revelation 12:11
Chemical Christianity is one threat. Idols of every type are another.
But they are not the only threats.
