Vanity of Vanities: The World and the Things of the World Mean Nothing

ALL IS VANITY: The world and the things of this world ultimately mean nothing.
ALL IS VANITY: The world and the things of this world ultimately mean nothing.

“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 1:2

Ecclesiastes is a Biblical book written about the total vanity of the world and the things of this world. Written by Solomon (the world’s wisest man ever), Ecclesiastes succinctly sums up the uselessness of trying to attach meaning to anything in this world.

“Vanity of vanities; not only vain, but vanity in the abstract, which notes extreme vanity, especially where the word is thus doubled;”
Matthew Poole’s Commentary

ALL IS VANITY: The world and the things of this world ultimately mean NOTHING.

Which is why Satan and his workers of iniquity labor so hard and long to try and convince men that these fleeing shadows have some sort of ultimate meaning beyond establishing where men will spend eternity.

NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

One myth which modern man in his pride has fallen for hook, line and sinker: that “modern man” is the top of the historical food chain: the best that’s ever been.  Ecclesiastes says this notion is foolishness.

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9-10

The Preacher in Ecclesiastes relates exactly why successive generations of men think they are the kings of the hill (technology-wise, knowledge-wise, standard-of-living-wise).

“There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.”
Ecclesiastes 1:11

Vain men chase after legacies in this life, believing that future generations will remember them and their deeds.

These men are deceived.

Future generations will no more remember the deeds of the men of 2015 as the men of 2015 have remembered the deeds of men from 5000 years ago.  And, much of what is written about events from long ago is corruption and lies; history being a tool of deceivers who wish to control those who read it.

“ALL is vanity.”

It’s essential for end times preparation for believers to keep in mind: this life is fleeting and meaningless.

“for the fashion of this world passeth away.”
1 Corinthians 7:31

“ALL is vanity.”
