Jesus is recorded to have declared “Take heed” 14 times. Whenever He told those listening to “Take heed,” what was He saying?
Take heed means to “pay close attention to” or to “listen alertly.”
Whenever Jesus said “Take heed,” He then always followed it with some important bit of information to the listener. And example:
“Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”
—Luke 11:35
But concerning the end times, Jesus only said “Take heed” TWO TIMES The first time is recorded in Matthew, Mark and Luke. What was so important that Jesus prefaced it with “Take heed”?
“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.”
—Matthew 24:4
“And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:”
—Mark 13:5
“And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.”
—Luke 21:8
Do not be deceived.
Jesus told his listeners to take heed to not be deceived concerning the end times.
There is one other time Jesus said “Take heed” as it concerns the end times. It’s recorded in Luke.
“And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”
—Luke 21:34
Jesus instructed his audience to take heed and not be overly concerned with over-eating and drinking too much and the cares of this life.
Also necessary information. But the most important instructions: Take heed and let no man deceive you.
Deception is everywhere, every day.
Take heed.
THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-4
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
