Fellowship Among Apostasy

FELLOWSHIP AMONG APOSTASY: Fellowship is in Jesus Christ, not a building.
FELLOWSHIP AMONG APOSTASY: Fellowship is in Jesus Christ, not a building.

FELLOWSHIP AND APOSTASY: A FEW OBSERVATIONS

1- Based on several conversations over the last week, one common complaint (especially among the churched) seems to be the condition of the churches.

But the main excuse for not leaving apostate churches is Hebrews 10:24-25.

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Hebrews 10:25 is the “go-to” verse for those excusing their participation in churches filled with paganism, the occult, witchcraft, rebellion and apostasy.

But 2 Corinthians 6:14 is an answer to this: there is no fellowship between righteousness and unrighteousness.

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”

IF what some say about their church is true, (that their church is full of unbelieving worldlings), there can be no fellowship with unbelievers.

Some mention staying because “they can help those who are lost get back on the right track.” This is pride talking; it is not biblical. The Bible says “Leave.”

2- One important point to remember: the Christian’s fellowship is to be with other believers only and the believers’ fellowship is with Jesus Christ.

A Christian’s fellowship is NOT with a building or whoever happens to congregate in that building.

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:3

God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:9

A church-goer may have many reasons (misplaced duty, social, loyalty, a sense of feel-good, habit) to show up at an apostate church.

Fellowship isn’t one of them.

3- When quoting Hebrews 10:25 and promoting the churches as the center of “fellowship,” one gets the feeling that fellowship may not be paramount in the promoters’ minds.

What IS important seems to be an “appearance of fellowship.” They do not want to be open to the charge of forsaking fellowship, even if that fellowship is fake and phoney.

4- In a few cases, inertia appears to be the main reason for avoiding action of those who claim they are dissatisfied with their church.

5- Even those who complain of the worldliness of their churches cling to them in spite of 1 John 2:15.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

6- In some cases, the complainers give the sense that they are complaining–but not too much.Their complaints have the sense of chit-chat, not serious discussion.

IF there is too much agreement about the lack of Christianity within the walls of the church buildings, it feels like a line has been crossed.  The complainers then begin to backtrack.

At some point, they usually begin defending the very same church about which they were complaining.

The defense usually becomes more spirited as the conversation continues.

Finally, the conversation may become one about the faults of the listener for agreeing with the original complaints.

This can all be avoided by turning the original conversation to something the complainer REALLY is more interested in.

Like the weather.

7- What to do about the lack of fellowship?

Preach the gospel, fellowship with any new converts.

IN CONCLUSION

In conclusion, there is no fellowship with apostasy. “Fellowship” is not an excuse to continue attending a church which is apostate.

Preach (share) the gospel.

Is your calling and election sure?

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
-—1 Corinthians 1:18-19

Distraction, Distraction, Distraction: And then You Die

LIFE'S DISTRACTIONS: The devil's amusing game plan for perdition.
LIFE’S DISTRACTIONS: The devil’s amusing game plan for perdition.

TIME-WASTING, TIME-KILLING DISTRACTIONS

“They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.”
Luke 17:27-29

Eating, drinking, planting, building, weddings, buying and selling: if there were distractions aplenty in the days leading to destruction thousands of years ago, think about how many time-killing distractions there are now.

Distraction, distraction, distraction: they’re the things of life for most moderns.

Distractions, distractions, distraction: and before you know it, you’re dead.

And most of the distractions are based on lies.

24/7 around-the-clock sports; gardening; reading the non-stop book releases and other publications of the Corporate Media; jobs; advancement; making money; family; friends; endless church social events; rallies and marches and other feel-good activities: all combine to rob God Almighty of his praise and worship; all combine to take time away from prayer; all combine to steal the time from reading God’s Word.

All combine to distract from doing the commandments of Jesus. All combine to prevent the sharing of the gospel.

All the countless activities we call “living life” combine to kill time until you’re dead.

Then it’s too late.

It’s too late to ensure that one’s calling and election are sure.

It’s too late to repent.

It’s too late to work out one’s salvation with fear and trembling.

Whether times runs out because of one’s death or whether it runs out because of the return of Jesus: Satan wants the lost to stay busy until it’s too late.

Until it’s too late to do anything but mourn for all eternity about failing to take care of the business which was REALLY important: the business of salvation.

“So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Matthew 13:49-50

The enemy’s plan is keep people occupied “living their lives” until it too late to turn to Jesus.

Distraction, distraction, distraction: and then you’re dead.

Don’t put off your salvation a moment longer.

Is your calling and election sure?

Counterfeit Churches: Do Not Know the Gospel, Can’t Preach It

PREACHING THE GOSPEL: Can't preach what you do not know.
THE APOSTATE CHURCHES, PREACHING THE GOSPEL: Can’t preach what you do not know.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved,”
1 Corinthians 15:1-2

THE COUNTERFEIT CHURCHES AND THE GOSPEL: CAN’T SHARE WHAT THEY DO NOT KNOW

Christians are commanded to share the gospel.

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15

But the apostate churches are full of tares, pretenders and counterfeits; which is one reason the gospel is not preached.

The gospel is under relentless attack by the churches. In its place, they offer a variety of other gospels.

Altar calls, ABC’s of Salvation, “letting Jesus into your heart,” sinners’ prayers, signing pledge cards, prayers of repentance, raising a hand at a revival: those in the churches avoid preaching the gospel at all costs.
Other Gospels: A Form of Godliness, No Power

And it makes sense for the apostates to hate and avoid the gospel:God’s Word declares that the gospel is the “power of God unto salvation.”

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

The last thing Satan’s counterfeit churches want is the power of God in their buildings.

The very last thing the churches want is a true believer in their midst.

Therefore, the gospel is not preached.

THE GOSPEL: DON’T KNOW IT, CAN’T SHARE IT

This past week, this writer asked a variety of church people about the gospel.

He is still waiting for one who knew what the gospel was.

Some admitted they did not know it. Some didn’t answer. Others tried other gospels. There were a variety of substitutes offered including John 3:16-17.

But no gospel.

It stands to reason: you can’t share what you do not know. And if you can’t share the gospel, then you are not a Christian.

The devil’s tares who occupy the pews neither know the gospel nor see the importance of sharing it.

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
-—1 Corinthians 1:18-19

Oh, some churches talk a great deal about sharing the gospel. Many wolves in the pulpits declare “The gospel! The gospel! We have to have the gospel! We need the gospel!”

But they refuse to preach the gospel.

“The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so”
Jeremiah 5:31

God’s Word predicted as much for the last days churches and the people who would inhabit the buildings.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4

Sadly, the gospel is not preached because the gospel is not known in the churches which profess to honor Jesus.

“For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.”
Titus 1:10-11

Sharing the gospel is the duty commanded of all Christians. Knowing and sharing the gospel is one good way to tell true Christianity from the deceiving, lying talk of the counterfeit churches.

Is the reader one of the talkers?

And They Shall Be My People: God is Looking for a People

GOD: Has always been looking for a people who want Him as their God.
GOD: Has always been looking for a people who want Him as their God.

“And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:”
Jeremiah 32:28

[This is the first in a series about God looking for a people to which He can be a God.]

God has always been looking for a people to whom He can be their God. In the Old Testament, he began with Adam and Eve. Then He became the God of Israel. Finally, He became the God of the Gentiles, too.

However, God has always been a God to those who have faith and believe and obey.

God has always looked for a people to which HE can be their God.

THIS LIFE: A SCREENING OF SORTS

God created man with free will to choose or reject Him. In this way, God was able to fellowship with those who truly wanted fellowship with Him.

But how to make sure that the people really did love God?

By putting them in this world, with it’s myriad temptations.

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
1 John 2:15

All who ultimately come to God do so through His Son, Jesus Christ.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6

The people who come to God through Jesus have to do so in a world surrounded by sin. They have to reject the pleasures of this world for the promise of the next.

Very few do this.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:13-14

Many profess Jesus. Many profess a love of God. Many talk the talk.

Few there be who actually walk the walk.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
Matthew 7;21-23

PEOPLE OF GOD: FAITH IN GOD, NOT IN THE THINGS WHICH ARE SEEN

Rejecting the money, recognition and pleasures this present world offers for the sure rewards of the next requires a faith in God’s Word. It requires a faith in God to reward those who have such faith. It requires a resolve only available to those who make such a commitment and receive the Spirit of God.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6

“Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Romans 8:9,14

So, God has always been looking for a people to whom He can be their God.

His people will choose Him freely. His people will choose Him over the momentary rewards of this present world. His people will choose (through faith) the eternal, unseen rewards of the next life over the tangible, temporary offerings of this one.

His people will choose God even though this world will surely persecute them for making this choice.

“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
2 Timothy 3:12

And so, by subjecting man to the temptations, deceptions and afflictions of this life, God chooses His people: those who walk by faith.

“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
2 Corinthians 5:7

Are you one of His?

“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
Revelation 21:3

Or are you a talker?

Is your calling and election sure?
