EZEKIEL 38 and 39:
Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 give details of an end times battle. For centuries, it was taught that this was another view of the final battle of Armageddon.
IN the times in which we live, the Modern American Prophecy Industry has turned Ezekiel 38-39 (Gog-Magog) into a completely separate event from Armageddon, in many cases, an event preceding Armageddon by years. A small cottage industry has sprung up with many false teachers, prophets and deceitful workers attempting to portray the two accounts of Armageddon as two totally separate events.
In doing so, the battle of Gog-Magog has become a false landmark of a completely man-created end times scenario.
Ezekiel 38-39 is Armageddon.
There are several striking points in the two accounts which are persuasive, but they do not conclusively prove Gog-Magog and Armageddon are the same event.
But there is one detail in both accounts which leaves no doubt the two are the same event, with each account supplementing the other.
In addition, there are other details in Ezekiel which establish the timing of Gog-Magog.
First, the similarities from both accounts.
GOD GATHERS THE FOWLS OF THE AIR
God calls the beasts and especially the birds to feast upon the carcasses of the wicked in both accounts.
“Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.”
“And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.”
“And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.”
“And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.”
Both accounts mention great hailstones which will strike the wicked at the last battle of mankind against Jesus. John’s account in Revelation is the more detailed of the two.
“And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.”
“And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.”
PANIC STRIKES THE ARMIES OF MEN
In both account, God sends a panic on the wicked which causes them to attack one another.
“And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.”
In Zechariah chapter 14, the prophet gives an account of what happens on the day of the Lord: the day that Jesus comes back to fight against the combined armies of the earth at Armageddon.
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.”
GOG-MAGOG AND ARMAGEDDON ARE THE SAME
A great earthquake is detailed in both accounts.
“And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face. For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.”
“And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.”
The earthquake is so mighty that it throws down the mountains. This is in both accounts: both in Ezekiel’s account of Gog-Magog and in Revelation’s account of Armageddon, a mighty earthquakes levels the mountains.
This can only happen once.
Ezekiel 38-39 IS describing the battle at Armageddon.
AS IF any further evidence was needed, Ezekiel provides a few more bits of proof. From after the battle, the Jews will know that Jesus is the Messiah.
“So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.”
Ezekiel has to be speaking of Jesus: the house of Israel already knows that God the Father is God.
The following happens when Jesus sets up his kingdom on earth after the battle of Armageddon. It’s described in Ezekiel’s account of Gog-Magog.
“Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.”
The events in Ezek. 39:28-29 do not occur until the Messiah returns.
Gog-Magog (Ezekiel 38-39) is Armageddon.
God often gives bits and pieces of the same event in different books by different prophets. The birth of Jesus is a good example of this. Prophecies concerning Jesus were distributed throughout different books of the Old Testament.
God’s picture of what takes place in the end times is clear. But that clear picture will not be gotten by consulting so-called ‘Christian‘ books from the mystery of iniquity. It will only take shape by studying God’s Word.
Gog-Magog (Ezekiel 38-39) is Armageddon.
And that’s the end times according to God’s Word–not some false prophet’s latest money-making book or CD.
Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
