BEWARE: False Prophets of the Internet

BEWARE FALSE PROPHETS
BEWARE FALSE PROPHETS

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
Matthew 7:15

The Bible has many passages warning of false prophets and false teachers in the last days. Apparently, they are routinely ignored by most people.

The Internet is full of websites claiming to be Christian but preaching contrary to the Bible. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in the many, many websites which claim to speak for God.

Usually, these sites have a “prophet” or “prophetess” who, if the reader doesn’t look too closely, appears to be mimicking Bible verses.

But something contrary to God’s Word is usually embedded in their bland, extraneous messages.

These false prophets flourish despite what the Bible says about such pronouncements.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”
Hebrews 1:1-2

This doesn’t mean that God can not speak to His people. Occasionally, He does. But God WILL NEVER say anything contrary to what is written in His Word.

However, who has the time to test what has been spoken in God’s name against what is written in His Word?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
1 John 4:1

God’s people have always had problems with those who claim to speak in God’s name. The Old Testament is full of stories of false prophets telling the people what they wanted to hear. This made God’s message from HIS prophets much less popular.

“Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”
Jeremiah 23:32

Jesus, in particular, warned of false prophets arising in the last days. Deception was one of His main concerns.

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
Matthew 24:11

But Satan is a tricky fellow (as are his minions) and he knows that people LOVE to have the “inside scoop” on what’s going to happen. Satan works hard to deceive the masses and the masses, unfortunately, are deceived.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:”
Revelation 12:9

The road to deception is paved with a reliance on “men of God” who aren’t. When men turn to other men; when men rely on men instead of the Word of God: that is the beginning of deception.

Many of the scams run by false prophets are similar.  One of the most popular has been the “I’ve been to heaven and God sent me back with a message.”

This is totally contrary to what the Bible teaches.  No one is coming back from the dead with a message from God.  No message that needs telling isn’t already in God’s Word.

Yet, the book stores are full of such non-biblical messages; DVDs abound and YouTube has various videos with messages from false prophets.

And then, there are those hundreds of “prophetic” websites.  Check the bios of the prophets: quite a few are run by “former” witches and other members of the occult practices.

Sometimes, the messages appear to be biblical.  But after the readers’ trust has been gained, later messages include much which is not biblical.

Beware of false prophets.

That’s a message from God.

And that message is one which can be found in His Word.

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
2 Peter 2:1

Don’t rely on false prophets: rely on God’s Word.

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

PEACE in a World of Tribulation

THE ONLY PLACE OF PEACE FOR THE BELIEVER
THE ONLY PLACE OF PEACE FOR THE BELIEVER

“In the world ye shall have tribulation:”
John 16:33

Yes, the world is full of tribulation for the believer.

Many believe that “tribulation” means a time of persecution–and it CAN mean that. But strictly speaking, “tribulation” means a constriction, a feeling of being hemmed in, of having no escape.

TRIBULATIONthlípsis – properly, pressure (what constricts or rubs together), used of a narrow place that “hems someone in”; tribulation, especially internal pressure that causes someone to feel confined (restricted, “without options”).

/thlípsis (“compression, tribulation”) carries the challenge of coping with the internal pressure of a tribulation, especially when feeling there is “no way of escape” (“hemmed in”).

Everywhere the believer travels in this world, he gets the feeling of being “hemmed in.” This world is fallen and corrupted by sin: the evidence of it is everywhere the believer looks. There is a constant reminder that the believer is a foreigner, a stranger, in this world; that this world is not his home.

“For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.”
1 Chronicles 29:15

Sojourners, Pilgrims, Strangers: Christians are Just Passing Through

SO: if the above is all true–and it is–what of the promises of Jesus and the Father about the believer having peace?

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27

Does this mean those promises are somehow not true?

God forbid.

The world offers nothing but tribulation and reminders that this present world is not the home of the believer.

There is no peace in the structures men call “churches.” There is no peace in the schemes of man. There is no peace appealing to the powers of spiritual darkness.

YET peace may be had in this world.

On one’s knees, in the Father’s presence: in prayer.

It is in prayer that the tribulation and pressures of this world melt away. THAT is where peace is to be found. Any time the believer feels the sin of the surrounding world, he may enter into the presence of God in prayer.

All of God’s promises are true.

But then, the believer already knows this.

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

Does the reader know the peace that passeth all understanding?

THE WICKED: Centuries of Labor for 42 Months of Success

COMING FOR THE WICKED
COMING FOR THE WICKED

“But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.”
Psalm 37:11-13

The wicked scheme and plan and scheme some more.

Their schemes mostly involve building a sort of heaven on earth. Not believing the Bible, this is the only type of heaven they can know.

They believe no one sees them as they toil behind the scenes. But God sees them. He sees their slow progress; their futility. Their visions of heaven on earth never seem to work out, but that has not lessened the years and years of conniving by generations of evil men and the wicked spiritual powers behind them.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Ephesians 6:12

But the Bible tells us there is coming a short season when the wicked will FINALLY appear to be on top of the world.

Unbelief finally appears to triumph.

For forty-two months.

“And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws; and they shall be given into his hand until a time, and times, and the dividing of time.”
Daniel 7:25

“And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.”
Revelation 13:7

“…a time, and times, and the dividing of time.”

Three-and-a-half years, 42 months or 1260 days: however one figures, it’s not a very long time for all of the centuries of their labors. But that’s what evil men are working for: that future time of three-and-a-half years when it appears their centuries-long rebellion against God is finally successful.

The wicked shake their tiny fists at God and at His anointed, Jesus Christ.

And He laughs at their efforts.

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.”
Psalm 2:2-4

Because they do not believe the Bible (even though they constantly make excuses for why it is correct), the wicked are forced to turn to each other for comfort and reassurance.

Or, even worse, to lying spirits.

“Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker!”
Isaiah 45:9

Though God laughs at their feeble attempts, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

“As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways;”
Ezekiel 33:11

Though it may sometimes seem evil men are not punished, they are. As the Creator, God hopes for the life of all His creation. A merciful God is patient, hoping the wicked will repent, not wishing that any should perish.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9
