“UNITY” seems to be the watchword of the day. Not united in Christ, mind you.
All the world begs for unity: the governments of the world; the sports figures of the world.
So too do the churches of the world.
Unity of and by itself means nothing. Many Christians hear of the unity of the apostles in Acts 1 and 2 and believe that unity is always a good thing. But there are other examples of unity in Acts that are not so good.
The crowd that stoned Stephen was united.
“Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul.”
The people in Tyre and Sidon were united in error when they approached Herod–then praised him.
“And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country. And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.“
The Jews of Achaia were of united when they attacked Paul “with one accord.”
“And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat, Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.”
The silversmiths and pagans were united in wrath over Paul and his companions.
“And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.”
UNITED IN ERROR
Catholics are united in error, trapped by doctrines and “Sacred Traditions” which are contrary to the Word of God.
Protestants have been united in various errors and traditions as dogmatic as any of the Catholicism from which they split.
Pentecostals and Charismatics have been united in errors which have prepared the way for the man of sin.
Is any of this the unity for which Christians should strive?
Many professing evangelicals are united behind false teachers preaching a “Prosperity” gospel–or worse. Some church leaders–including the pope–are teaching that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same god as Allah. Somewhere, someone is calling for unity every day on this matter.
Chrislam is a unity that is being forged between compromising Christians and Muslims. Its adherents value peace and unity over the Word of God.
Unity is often a club used to beat down any who defend the Bible against the doctrines of man–as it was used by the Roman Catholic Church during the Dark Ages. Of course, in our “enlightened” times, the term “Dark Ages” is discouraged: too black-and-white; too darkness-and-light.
One of the most famous statements about unity is recorded in Matthew 12:25. Ironically, Matthew 12:25 is often used in appeals to unity.
“And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:”
Of course, at the time, Jesus was referring to the unity in Satan’s kingdom.
“And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?”
Unity isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but to appeal to unity for unity’s sake?
That’s a clear sign of the end times.
Worldwide unity is a sign of the end times: when the churches will be united in their praise of the man of sin and their worldwide worship of the dragon.
“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
Cults always appeal to–then demand–unity. Even now, many people are united in error; woefully deceived as the cult of the dragon readies itself for its blazing season in the sun before being consigned to an eternity of tormenting judgment.
World Unity is coming soon
Because of the times in which we live, such appeals for a generic unity should be approached cautiously.
According to the Bible, there is a man who will soon appear who will unify an apostate church under false doctrine. He will then unify the apostate church with the world’s false creeds into a one-world religion.
Unity will then reign worldwide–except for a small, separate remnant Church. That Church is VERY SMALL. That remnant will be united specifically in Christ Jesus–not united for the sake of unity as the rest of the world will be.
Those few of the remnant Church will be hunted by the deceived drones of the dragon as they enjoy their moment of ascendancy.
Those few (who constitute the end times Church of Jesus Christ) are the ones Jesus foretold.
“…upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
That remnant WILL NOT be a part of the worldwide unity–and, the Bible says, that remnant will suffer great persecution because of their non-unity with the world.
Unfortunately, most American church-goers have no appetite for ANYTHING having to do with persecution. They would rather throw in with Satan and comfort over Jesus and the prospect of persecution.
“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”
End times unity’s slogan might be “Misery loves company!”
Will the reader be united in error?
Will the reader be united in the world?
Will the reader be united in eternal destruction?
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
