Eye Has Not Seen: Promises Both Here and Beyond

Eye has not seen; heavenly clouds

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
–1 Corinthians 2:9

Paul’s statement of First Corinthians often provides a source of encouragement to Christians and pseudo-Christians alike. As well it should.

But the context of the verse is NOT that Christians should think solely on the glories and wonders of heaven. If the reader will continue on to 1 Corinthians 2:10, he will see that Paul was also offering encouragement for THIS WORLD as well.

“But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

Believers have been provided a tremendous comfort IN THIS WORLD by God sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to make a way to eternal life. This was nothing but the  manifestation of the almost-unlimited mercy of a loving God. Through the gospel of the Son, ALL mankind (Jews and Gentiles alike) have been offered a narrow path to eternal joy and life with the Father.

HOWEVER, the words of 1 Corinthians 2:9 may also be understood as many take them: as a description of the unspeakable joy awaiting in heaven eternal.

“… the words, both in the Prophet and in the Apostle, are generally understood of the future and ultimate happy effects of the Divine mercy in the state of glory, and those joys and felicities of heaven, which are “prepared” and reserved for them that love God, and “wait for Him.”
–British Family Bible notes

[In fact, the entire 16 verses of 1 Corinthians 2 are well-worth the read. They cover the wisdom of God, the wisdom of this world, the power of God, the confounding of this world’s (and Satan’s) wisdom by the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the Spirit of God.]

IF the reader is so inclined, he may imagine the best feeling in his life; the most wonderful joy. Then, imagine that this is the ordinary, everyday feeling one in heaven experiences AT ALL TIMES.

And the glories of heaven will be beyond THAT, because heaven will surpass any attempt to imagine its riches.

“For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.”
–Isaiah 64:4

The unlimited mercy of an omnipotent God Almighty await those who change direction and turn away from their sin [repent]. Turn toward God and embrace His Son, Jesus Christ.

Tender Mercies of the Lord: Will Not Always Be Available

Though God’s mercies are new every day, His Word repeatedly and constantly warns that His mercy is not something which can be taken for granted. God’s mercies are not something He extends without reservation.

God repeatedly warns He will show mercy to whom and when He pleases and NONE may question His motives.

That mercy is available NOW.

The time for obtaining that mercy is TODAY.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
John 20:31

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
