“The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.”
–Isaiah 24:19-20
The entire Bible could be said to be a testimony of Jesus Christ.
The Old Testament gives prophecies and shadows which were fulfilled either during Jesus’ earthly ministry OR when He returns to set up His everlasting kingdom.
The New Testament records the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the establishment of His Church and prophecies about His second coming.
THE END TIMES PROPHECIES OF ISAIAH’S 24TH CHAPTER
Several Bible commentators have hesitantly offered that Isaiah 24 may be referring to the future. Some recent commentaries have identified Isaiah 24 with Armageddon. Many others have traditionally claimed that the events depicted in Isaiah 24 have already happened.
The subject of this chapter some refer to the desolation caused by the invasion of Shalmaneser; others by that of Nebuchadnezzar; and others to the destruction of the city and nation by the Romans. Perhaps it may have a view to all the three great desolations of the country; the Prophet chiefly employs general images, such as set forth the greatness and universality of the ruin to be brought on, involving all orders and degrees of men, changing entirely the face of things, and destroying the whole polity, both religious and civil.

It is not the intent of this article to argue over various claims of what has happened in the past. The intent is to point out that Isaiah 24 is clearly about the return of Jesus Christ on the day of the LORD.
This is made crystal clear by verse 23:
“Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.”
These events have yet to take place. The descriptions of the sun and the moon are recorded many other places in Scripture (both Old and New Testament) as signs of the return of Jesus Christ.
Other events in Isaiah 24 are confirmed in the Bible as end times happenings, particularly the fate of the kings of the earth and their armies at Armageddon (verses 17-18, 21-22).
The coming destruction of Jerusalem, the saving of a remnant of the Jews. the final triumph of Jesus Christ and His Church over the apostate churches of Babylon and the judgment of the synagogue of Satan (verses 8, 10-15, 23) are also foretold.
Isaiah 24 is a chapter of destruction and ultimate triumph: the destruction of the wicked and the final triumph of the righteous. In fact, Isaiah 24 is so rich in prophecies, it will be the subject of further attention in the near future.
Importantly, Isaiah 24 provides detailed descriptions of the aftermath of the day of the LORD, the battle of Armageddon and the many judgments of God upon the earth.
ISAIAH 24
“Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.
The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.
Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. “

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
