HELL: Who Will Be in Hell?

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night”
–Revelation 14:11

Most people do not think much about hell.

Little wonder: it’s not a very nice neighborhood.

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone”
–Revelation 21:8

Perhaps that’s why so many fables are constructed about a place God’s Word declares will be the final resting place for many.

“for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat”
–Matthew 7:13

One of the biggest fables about hell is that it will be filled with the most evil people ever born. Many believe the “wicked” are the most evil ever.

But the Bible also calls those who are wicked “foolish.”

“Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!”
–Ezekiel 13:3

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.”
–Titus 3:3

Most people compare themselves to Adolph Hitler or Ted Bundy and then say “I’m a pretty good person.”

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes”
–Proverbs 21:2

Even the most evil of men claim they are good.

“All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;”
–Proverbs 16:2

“There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.”
–Proverbs 30:12

The vast majority of men say they are good if you ask them.

“Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness”
–Proverbs 20:6

Of course hell will be full of unbelievers, BUT…

Hell will be full of people who were NICE.

Hell will be full of those who were kind to animals.

Hell will be packed with those who only ate certain foods at certain times or not at all.

Hell will be full of pleasant people.

Hell will be full of those who spent much time smiling and shaking hands.

Hell will be overflowing with claimed “men of God” who were exalted by the world.

Hell will be full of those who had Jesus on their lips but their hearts were far away from him.

Hell will be packed with church folks.

ESPECIALLY church folks.

“Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
–Matthew 7:22-23

ONLY those who spurned this present world and placed their whole faith in Jesus Christ; ONLY those written in the Lamb’s book of life, will escape eternal torment hell.

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
