LIP SERVICE to God in the World’s Greatest Christian Country Ever™

lip service

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
–Matthew 15:8-9

Has America forsaken God Almighty?

Or was the USA never His to begin with?

BEWARE the Cries of Those Who Urge the USA to Return to God

Upon meeting a former colleague recently, a discussion ensued regarding the present condition of the United States.

One contention was that people have abandoned God.

Another contention was that people CANNOT abandon that to which they only paid lip service. Which is/was/has been the real condition of the USA.

LIP SERVICE, noun: support for someone or something that is expressed by someone in words but that is not shown in that person’s actions

Isaiah and Ezekiel both record God’s thoughts of those who talk the talk (lip service), but who do not walk the walk.

“And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.”
–Ezekiel 31:33

Back to the discussion of America.

One point raised concerned current parents who no longer teach their children of God.

Another point raised was that parents almost NEVER taught their children of God, but INSTEAD taught their children to pay lip service to God while doing exactly as they wished.

The USA has, at every point along its history, demonstrated a lip service to God and little more. People love to point to the past and say “It was better then.” But then, these people have no personal experience with the past; they only know what they have been told.

IF this second point is correct (American have ALWAYS talked the talk instead of walking the walk), that would make America a land of hypocrites–which is largely self-evident.

“Hypocrisy is a tribute that vice pays to virtue.”
–François de La Rochefoucauld, Reflections or Sentences and Moral Maxims

The recent discussion?

There were generally three points of agreement.

One point was that parents no longer even concern themselves with teaching their children even lip service; modern parents being too busy with tattoos, hedonism, and other expressions of self-love to spend much time with their children. When these parents DO spend time, they have very little of value to pass along to their offspring.

Another point of agreement was that the culture (such as it is) is no longer concerned with even appearances of good–the culture being such a tube of  spewing sewage, it has no ability to discern between good and evil.

Still another point of agreement was that the single remaining stronghold of those who pay lip service to God is in the churches–but even that stronghold is beginning to show its true colors.

“Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men”
–Isaiah 29:13

Does the reader honor God Almighty with lip service only?

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
2 Corinthians 4:3
