COMFORT AND TRUTH: A Few Lies About the Truth

MEN ARE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH COMFORT THAN WITH THE TRUTH

“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”

Men are NOT comfortable with the truth.

Men prefer lies.

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
–John 3:19

The world tells many lies about the truth.

The following are only a few such lies.

1- Men will die for the truth.

Men will die for a great many things. Truth is not one of them.

Men will die for something much more personal or self-centered–family, friends, country, money. They then will wrap their selfish actions in the clean, white clothes of truth, justice or some noble cause.

Men LOVE to tell lies about how good, noble and wonderful they are.

[Yes, the martyrs and apostles of Jesus did die for the truth. BUT they died for so much more: it was not some abstract truth they died for. They ultimately died for the testimony of Jesus–which is the truth personified.]

2- Men are searching for the truth.

IF men are searching for the truth, it’s only so they can construct more effective lies.

God is the ultimate truth and there are none seeking God.

“There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”
–Romans 3:11

3-The truth is not merely the truth: there are a lot of qualifiers to the truth.

The world exalts those men who tell the most convincing lies about the truth.

“Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it.”

“The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”

“Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“Better a cruel truth than a comfortable delusion.”

Truth is something that is NOT valued highly by man.

The truth is: Most men value their comfort rather than the truth.

And again, men are not comfortable with the truth.

DOES the reader want to learn the truth?

OR IS the reader content with what the world tells him?
