“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”
At the end of a busy street at an early morning hour when very little traffic was about: one stop sign.
A few drivers came to a complete stop, as demanded by the sign–even though there appeared to be no one about or watching.
Many drivers “rolled through” the stop sign, not coming to a complete stop.
Several other drivers made NO attempt to stop, barreling through the sign because it was evident no cars were coming from the other directions.
The stop sign is a symbol of authority.
There are no physical barriers which compel drivers to stop. The only thing which makes the drivers stop (if they do) when there is no law enforcement present is each driver’s recognition of the authority of the STOP sign. Or rather, the authority of those who posted the sign.
In the time in which we now live, the authority of such symbols–especially when they are not backed up by some force or immediate consequences–will grow less and less.
In the times in which we now live, authority of ALL types will be questioned, de-legitimzed and resisted.
This is because the times in which we now live are a time of lawlessness, when an increasing number of people recognize no higher authority than themselves.
The wise reader should plan accordingly.
“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
DOES the reader recognize a higher authority?
OR, does the reader rebel at even the idea of a higher authority?
THERE is still time to change direction (repent) and place one’s trust in Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
—2 Corinthians 4:3
