The believer is warned repeatedly of end times deception.
One of the most-frequently warned deceptions involve “false Christs” and “false prophets.” This warning also includes false teachers, false brethren and false men of God.
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
Since the advent of mass media (radio, TV, the Internet, etc.), the false “Man of God” has not only been a part of the media landscape, (s)he has actually been the rule rather than the exception.
NOTE: Now is probably as good a time as any to make the observation that we do not know everything.
One day, however, the true believer shall. In that day, we may find that, of the “great men of faith” exalted throughout history, most (perhaps all?) of them were working for the enemy.
MORAL? Do not place your trust in men–even men who appear to be “holy.”
Place your trust in Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God.
Men can make mistakes; Jesus never has. Men will let the reader down. Jesus has set the captives free!
Someone else wrote (concerning one of the supposed “men of God“) of the death of famed evangelist, David Wilkerson.
Did you know that David Wilkerson died in an auto accident not many weeks ago? Search the Scriptures and show me where you find a true man of God dying by accidental death or nasty disease. It doesn’t happen. Martyrdom, yes; natural causes, yes; premature or ugly death, no. God reigns over all.
Believers are commanded to “take heed that no man deceive you” by no less an authority than Jesus Christ Himself.
“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.”
The overwhelming deception of the times in which we live demands that believers pay extra-close attention to ALL so-called “men of God.”
Especially those who have been exalted by the world.
THOUGH time grows short, there is still time left to change direction (repent) and call upon the name of the LORD.
Do not wait until it is too late.
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
