Do Not Confuse NICE with RIGHTEOUS

smiley - optimism

“Smiling Faces sometimes they don’t tell the truth.”
–Temptations, 1971

This piece concerns something noticed several times over the past week or so.

During several discussions about people who were guilty of various transgressions (including a few low-level crimes), the remark “But he (or she) was SO NICE!” was heard.

AS IF someone being pleasant or nice precluded them from being workers of iniquity.

It was pointed out that there are any number of people who take advantage of others by outwardly pretending to be “nice.”

  1. CON MEN
  2. TV Preachers
  3. Some salesmen of various industries
  4. Those who work email scams
  5. Many others who are trying to get something for nothing

On this subject, even the world agrees.

What does the world say about playing nice?

“You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

What does the world say about trusting those who APPEAR pleasant and nice?

“You can’t judge a book by its cover.”

NOW, for the REAL authority.

What does the Bible say about trusting appearances?

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
–2Corinthians 11:13-15

“And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD’S anointed is before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
–1Samuel 16:6-7

What does the Bible say about trusting man in general?

“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
–Psalm 118:8

NOW: do not misunderstand what is being said here.

There is nothing wrong with being nice.

The discussions over this past week or so centered around those who APPEAR TO BE NICE or PLEASANT…

…but whose actions are NOT NICE or PLEASANT.

It would be well for the reader to remember not to confuse the two: acting nice is NOT the same thing as being righteous.

“Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.”
–Micah 7:5

The reader would be wise to NOT trust appearances…

…particularly those who control the buildings which are called “churches“…

…especially in the times in which we now live.

DOES the reader find himself putting his trust in man?

THOUGH time grows short, there is still time left to change direction (repent) and call upon the name of the LORD.

Do not wait until it is too late.

Is your calling and election sure?

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

THE GOSPEL

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
