“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
Living in the end times: 10 observations, drawn from various discussions, comments and emails over the past several months.
In no particular order.
“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you”
1- The total immersion of the world and all that live for the world in deception was far and away the most discussed topic.
Deception; the totality of deception; how people attempt to deal with deception; how people react to deception: practically all aspects of living with deceit contributed to making “deception” the #1 topic of end times discussions over the past eight-ten weeks.
“Sin” was a distant second in popularity, but much which has been talked about concerned “sin and its relationship to deception.”
The end times are a time of complete deception; of demonically-inspired deception; of satanic deception. Folks can know we are living in the end times if for no other reason than the sheer magnitude of deception.
“God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
2- For the most part, man has not only learned to live with sin, man has learned to live COMFORTABLY with his sin.
Actually, man is not only comfortable with his sin, he congratulates himself whenever he does not have the time to constantly commit abominations.
It has gotten to the point where most believe the lie, “He is a good man.”
“She is good people.”
Short of murder, most apparently believe they are a “good person.”
Just ask them.
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes”
“But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”
3- Those who suffer affliction and torment due to sinful behavior are loath to change that behavior.
One person likened it to the man who is in the hospital and has lost parts of his lungs and trachea due to his smoking, YET defiantly continues smoking a cigarette through his tracheotomy.
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”
4- Many who wallow in sin can recognize sinful behavior and its consequences (at least the PHYSICAL consequences) of that behavior IF IT OCCURS IN SOMEONE ELSE.
Their own behavior and actions?
Blinded by their self-deception, it is like someone is speaking a foreign language when the topic turns to sin and its consequences.
“Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron
5-Outside of the walls of the buildings known as “churches,” there is almost a zero chance of someone mentioning “sin” or “sinful behavior.”
Even affliction and torment which are some of the consequences of sin are explained away as having PHYSICAL not SPIRITUAL origins.
Many attribute their troubles to ANYTHING other than sin, being reluctant to even say the word. In this deception, they are aided and abetted by the world; by the flesh; and, by Satan.
Some even debate they possess something called a “conscience.”
Some claim that a conscience is a by-product of a bygone era which was focused on primitive ideas such as good and evil.
6- VERY FEW believe the current condition of society/world can continue for very long. Most believe the time left for the world’s current state of affairs is very short.
Many KNOW the overall condition of man is horrible: they can see the results daily with their own eyes.
YET, because they are deceived, they do nothing to prepare; they do nothing which contributes to changing the situation.
A paradox is that many of the same ones who can see the world in a downward spiral, believe–against all evidence they admit they see with their eyes–that “Things will all work out. They always do!”
Some will even admit, “I don’t know HOW things will get better, but they will.”
One other lie heard was: “Things have to get better: they can’t get much worse!”
“I said in my haste, All men are liars.”
7- Many of the lost KNOW they are surrounded by deception.
They KNOW practically everyone they come in contact with lies to them: the government, the churches, the media, advertising, science, medical practitioners, TV preachers, sports figures, celebrities, professors and teachers.
YET, these are those who return to these very same sources (which they KNOW lie to them) for “news” and “information.”
NOT ONLY THAT, but they put their faith in the future in the hands of the very ones they KNOW lie to them: they make plans for their future based on what they are told by people whom they KNOW lie to them.
8- One surprising discovery did emerge, but–if people are to be believed–proved to be generally true.
It does not matter how bad one’s health is.
It does not matter how rocky one’s family life may grow.
It doesn’t even matter how bad overall finances are.
As long as most people have some cash in their pockets, they believe that “Things will eventually get better.“
Nothing seems to inspire hopelessness in these people like not having any cash on hand.
Many based their entire condition in life on their access to cash. It wasn’t even necessary to have cash in their pockets at all times, as long as they were certain money was on the way (such as receiving some sort of regular benefit check).
9- Many who experience bad health or other adverse consequences due to their choice of sinful behavior will spend time and money to treat the consequences of that behavior, but will NOT consider changing the sinful behavior itself.
10- Many (most?) have been indoctrinated against the only solution which will solve their problems and relieve their affliction.
Some are indoctrinated by the worldly system (college, schools, the culture, etc.).
Others are indoctrinated by the churches.
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
There were many other observations, but these were some of the topics which either 1- were discussed repeatedly; or, 2- otherwise made an impression on this writer.
The discussions will continue.
As, no doubt, will the observations.
DOES the reader recognize himself or someone he knows in any of the previous listed observations?
IS the reader anxious or worried about the future, but is unsure about how to proceed?
There is still time to repent, place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
