FEW: Few There Be That Find End Times Salvation

FEW THERE BE: God saved eight from the Flood.
FEW THERE BE: God saved eight from the Flood.

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:13-14

Few there be that find it [eternal life, salvation].”

More than once over the past several years, the question (“How few is few?“) has been raised and discussed in these parts.

Few There Be: How Few is Few?

There seems to be a general agreement that we are certainly living in the end times according to the Bible.

Looking For the End Times: Too Late, the End Times Have Been Here for Some Time

There seems to be a general agreement on the worsening conditions of the times in which we live.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
–2Timothy 3:13

BUT there is little agreement on how few is few; on how many constitute the group Jesus declared were “few.”

Some take a generous view of those they consider “saved.” This is not helpful: either to those who have substituted an entire regimen of worldly traditions and rituals, as well as flesh-pleasing practices for precepts contained in the Word of God OR for those who mistakenly congratulate themselves for “leading a sinner to the cross.”

Others take a more balanced view and believe that “few” means “few.”

Heard recently “God saved eight from the entire pre-flood world. He saved three (originally four, counting Lot’s wife) from Sodom and Gomorrah.

THAT is few.”

“Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”
–1Peter 3:20

Also heard recently in one discussion: “I don’t think I know more than one or two other Christians.”

Which is tragic–but expected.

It also helps illustrate the scarcity of Christians–not tares, not pretenders, not counterfeits, not church folk, but true believers.

These are those who are struggling to find God Almighty. The transformed life of the new birth is not yet in their possession.

They also lack the presence of the Holy Spirit.

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
–2Corinthians 4:7

BUT they do DESIRE the benefits which come from having the Holy Spirit as a guide into all truth. AND they want fire insurance, some being convinced of the torments of eternal hellfire.

It is suspected this group contains not a few but many.

The times in which we live are so deceptive. Most have no inkling of the depth of deception. Everyday deception is so heavy: another, false reality altogether has been created.

And so, regular prayers from the faithful go out to heaven for these semi-seekers.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
–James 5:18

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
