SOME FURTHER THOUGHTS ON COFFEE
A few years ago (December 2015), the question was asked “Is Coffee the Demon Bean?”
After some give-and-take, a conclusion (of sorts) was reached.
So what did Jesus say?
“And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”
—Mark 7:14-16So, coffee DOES NOT appear to be the ‘demon bean.’
This article is not intended to be an apologetic for coffee or caffeine. It’s not a defense of coffee and caffeine in all situations and quantities.
However, it appears that there’s nothing wrong with the occasional cup on a cold morning or evening.
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
—Colossians 3:17Whether you drink coffee or not, time is running out.

—COFFEE: Is Coffee the Demon Bean?
And so, the article rendered a decision: “…it appears that there’s nothing wrong with the occasional cup on a cold morning or evening.”
[About a year later (December 2016), the topic of Energy Drinks was addressed.]
However, something about the conclusion of that earlier article kept nagging and so it was decided to one day revisit the topic.
That day is today.
Here are a few more (biblically-based) thoughts on coffee which have occurred in the past two years since COFFEE: Is Coffee the Demon Bean? was published.
1-Coffee contains the drug, caffeine.
Though caffeine is a weak drug, it is a drug nonetheless.
The Bible warns of drugs in the end times.
“Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
–Revelation 9:21
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
–Galatians 5:19-21
The Greek word translated as “sorceries” in Revelation 9:20 and “witchcraft” in Galatians 5:20 is pharmakeia, which has a meaning of sorcery, witchcraft, drugs or poison (depending upon the context).
In addition, the word “sorceries” in Revelation 18:23 was also translated from the Greek pharmakeia.
“And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.”
The Greek word pharmakeia is where we get the words “pharmacy” and “pharmaceuticals.”

So, perhaps the question should be asked, “Should we be putting any types of drugs–even legal, socially-approved ones such as caffeine–into our bodies during the end times?”
2- Not only is caffeine a drug, but it is a mild psychoactive drug. It is a drug which works directly on the central nervous system.
In fact, caffeine is the most- consumed psychoactive drug in the world.
As such, it has the power to alter one’s reality.
We can know this is true because millions of people use coffee to alter their realities every morning. Many are tired or lacking energy. They drink coffee and–voila!–they now believe themselves to be refreshed and energized.
The reality of their situation has not changed: they are still tired. However, their PERCEPTION of their reality HAS changed: they now believe themselves to be more energetic–at least for a little while.
Millions use coffee to alter their realities every single day.
As false and altered realities are already a problem in the end times, the question might be asked “Should we be consuming any substances which alter our realities?”
One of the critical deceptions of the end times concerns the inability of end times man to distinguish between what is real and what he believes is real.
And so, another question comes to mind: “Are there any other ways caffeine might alter realities other than the ones with which so many are already familiar?”

3- So many welcome coffee and “what it can do for them.”
Like so many other legal, socially-accepted substances which ultimately prove harmful (tobacco, alcohol, etc.), many run to embrace coffee.
This is the same situation most find themselves in concerning sin: they run to embrace it even though society may now say there is nothing wrong with it.
Some of those legal, socially-approved activities include gambling, alcohol and, in some areas, prostitution, among others.

4- There have been those who have made the argument in favor of coffee “Coffee is alright in moderation. A little coffee surely won’t hurt anybody.”
“A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.”
–Galatians 5:9
It only takes a little sin to infuse a whole person with sin.
5- Another argument made in favor of coffee: “God put coffee here on earth. It’s a natural substance. There’s nothing wrong with coffee.”
This could be said of all substances which are harmful.
God created everything, including substances misused by man to his woe.
So, our basic position has not changed except to urge caution for those indulging in coffee.
However, this is not the end of this discussion.
It will continue.
There is still time to repent, place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
