“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. “
–Psalm 82:4
The believer is charged with duties associated with salvation: from turning the lost from darkness to light; from death to life; from destruction and perdition to eternal bliss.
BUT lost mankind is a stubborn thing.
Not only is man’s heart hard, he is also deceived and rebellious.
Some days, it seems AS IF there is no way to move the lost into the kingdom of heaven.
However, God has given the believer a powerful tool to overcome everything to those few who have faith.
That powerful tool is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.”
–1Corinthians 3-8
To the world, the gospel appears to be foolishness, BUT it is the power of God unto salvation.
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”
-—1 Corinthians 1:18-19
So, the believer–armed with the gospel–appears to all the world as to be armed with nothing at all. BUT, the believer is to try and pull those who are dying from the fire.
“And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
–Jude 1:22-23
And yes, attempting to prevent the lost from continuing on their way to eternal destruction is a thankless job.
BUT it MUST be done.
Those enmeshed in the world might say “It should be apparent that one cannot save someone from their self. All one can do is let them suffer the consequences of their actions and hope that they learn something from it.”
BUT the believer is held to a higher standard. He cannot wait until the lost suffer their ultimate consequences: then it would be too late.
The believer is to go forth and preach the gospel, knowing that VERY FEW will respond and be saved.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved”
–Acts 16:31
BUT the believer is to do this anyway because the believer is to be obedient–and the Word of God COMMANDS the believer to
- Preach the gospel to the lost;
- Shine a light in a dark world;
- To serve as an example to those who scoff at such things.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. “
–Psalm 82:4

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
