“Self-deception is the worst kind of deception.”
—Self-Deception is the Worst Deception
FURNISHING ONE’S OWN REALITY
No doubt there is some confusion as to what is meant by “alternate reality” or “false reality.”
Each day, millions of people go about the business of constructing and furnishing their own realities: their own FALSE realities.
Such mundane tasks as listening to a favorite radio station, drinking coffee, choosing among the many entertainment options, deciding what activities to take part in or the choice of reading materials affects the reality of the person making the choices.
Even the way one chooses to breathe and relax can affect the chosen reality of a person. And though most are deceived, choosing between the various deceptions of the world is what differentiates between the various false realities chosen. A person’s reality can be said to be furnished with various CHOSEN deceptions.
A good example is the choice of reading material and “news” programs one selects. One usually chooses to furnish their reality with items which will match the political persuasion they have chosen to embrace.
Mostly, one also chooses friends and acquaintances from among those who reinforce the reality he has chosen.
One also usually refrains from associating with too many people, places or ideas which cast doubt upon one’s chosen reality.
Person #1 may immerse himself in conservative publications (such as National Review and the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal). He no doubt chooses Fox News to obtain information about his world. He may buy books by the personalities which appear on Fox or in his periodicals. He may listen to talk radio during the time his radio is on, either at home, at work or in his automobile.
Person #2 may watch MSNBC for his “news” and other information. He may subscribe to a big city daily newspaper. His choice of reading material might include The New Republic or Mother Jones. His entertainment choices may include trendy progressive comics and/or trendy progressive movies.
Person #1 and Person #2 may live on the same block; work at the same office and share any number of other similarities in their lives. HOWEVER, because of their various choices, Person #1 and Person #2 may believe they live quite different existences.
In fact, Person #1 and Person #2 may think they live in two very different countries, due to their choices in furnishing each of their realities.
In fact, neither Person #1 nor #2 may have a clear view of what is actually happening around them due to their choices in furnishing their realities.
In fact, both Person #1 AND Person #2 may be totally and completely deceived about any number of things which are taking place in their world.
BUT both of these persons will most likely be ABSOLUTELY convinced they have a clear-eyed view of the world. Each will likely be TOTALLY sure that their view is correct–and they will back up their view with facts and figures supplied by their informational sources.
Which is WHY so many discussions between those who are Person #1 and those who mirror Person #2 are fruitless. Both people are trying to discuss two varying views of reality, of which neither may be correct. Because each believes his information to be true, neither listens to the other–except to attempt rebuttal.
“Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise.”

These various and sundry realities chosen by each person usually have little relation to what is REALLY going on in this world.
This is especially true for moderns. Many moderns begin their reality check by referencing that most isolated and deceiving of places: the Internet.

Constructing a false reality is not only a sign of self-deception, it is a FORM of self-deception as well.
Again, these various and sundry realities chosen by each person–as well as the component parts of those chosen, deceptive realities–usually have little relation to what is REALLY going on in this world.
BUT to most, none of that is important.
What IS important is the comfort of the one outfitting the reality: a person’s comfort, not the truth, is often the highest value in that person’s reality.
Which is WHY many, many, many people believe their lives are worthwhile, even if they might admit that the individual components of those lives are miserable.
As long as they maintain a certain level of individual comfort, EVERYTHING else (including the truth) is negotiable.
It is not yet too late: there is still time to repent, place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
