“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD”
–Deuteronomy 18:10-12
First, a definition–in case there is any confusion about what necromancy is or involves.
NECROMANCY – noun nec·ro·man·cy \ ˈne-krə-ˌman(t)-sē \
1 : conjuration (see conjure 2a) of the spirits of the dead for purposes of magically revealing the future or influencing the course of events
- The novel centers on the practice of necromancy and its influence on the world of the living.
Necromancy is when the deceived (or those who know better and pretend to talk to the dead) believe they are talking to the dead–OR rather, the spirits of the dead.
Those who claim to talk to the dead are somewhat right: they do talk to the spiritually dead; i.e., familiar (demon) spirits.
America’s most haunted: A fifth of people claim to have seen a ghost while 29% ‘have made contact with the dead’ – The Bible calls communicating with the dead “necromancy” and calls it an “abomination.”
So, 29% of Americans have practiced necromancy?
That seems high, even in the USA’s current, clearly depraved state.
But maybe not…
Necromancy (talking with the dead, either alone or through an intermediary) is a forbidden practice. No good thing can come of it.
There is no “talking to the dead.”
There IS talking with a familiar spirit (demon) who pretends to be the deceased.
Heard once: “But I was told things ONLY the person who died would know!”
Really?
While familiar spirits cannot know what one thinks, they do know what has been said and what has been done. And familiar spirits do hate human beings and try to entangle them in any number of self-destructive acts.
The information which comes from a session of “talking with the dead” will always lead to destruction–even if the information initially appears to be beneficial.
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
–Proverbs 16:25
As with all who consult familiar spirits, the one who consults with the (evil) spirit suffers a number of ways.
BUT the sufferer usually does not blame his woes on his forbidden behavior.
Again, those who believe they “talk with the dead” suffer a variety of woes, mostly self-inflicted.
Which is a prime reason the Bible warns of such behavior: not to throw cold water on the “good times” or “vital information” to be had by talking to the dead; but as a WARNING to prevent foolish humans from bringing woe and calamity upon themselves.

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
