“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”
–Revelation 16:13-14,16
“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse [Jesus Christ], and against his army.”
–Revelation 19:19
With all of the media chatter surrounding nuclear war, climate change and other “doomsday“-type scenarios, one thing has leaped out while reading the various narratives.
The complete misuse of the word “apocalypse.”
So, with that as a starting point, we present some thoughts on apocalypse and those end times scenarios.
1- The use of the word “apocalypse” to mean some sort of doomsday, end-of-time happening is a fairly recent one. The word ALWAYS (for centuries) meant something quite different: a revealing; a revelation. This is the reason the last book in the Catholic Bible is called Apocalypse, while the same book in the Protestant Bibles is called Revelation.
The recent, complete misuse of the word apocalypse has grown so ubiquitous, various dictionaries have even added definitions to reflect the misuse of the word, mostly by the Corporate Media.
2- Apocalypse, from the verb apokalypto (Greek), “to reveal.”
3- Some Bibles, worked on as they are by the workers of iniquity, expand on the Book of Revelation. In some Bibles, it is called “The revelation of St. John the Divine.”
This is sheer nonsense.
The first verse of the Book of Revelation is quite clear about the source of the revelation: Jesus Christ Himself.
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John”
–Revelation 1:1
4- With so many (mis)using “apocalypse” to mean “end-of-the-world,” it is no surprise that the term POST-apocalypse has come to mean “after such an end-of-the-world event.” Post-apocalypse has become popular as a genre of video games, movies and other forms of entertainment.
In most of these venues, post-apocalyptic shows the world AFTER some man-created, catastrophic event, such as nuclear war. In most of the scenarios, man is (usually) in some sort of Mad Max-like wasteland, attempting to pick up the pieces of his “civilization“–which is the highest form of human accomplishment–from among the wreckage.
5- With “post-apocalypse” NOW referring to the aftermath of some catastrophic world event (such as a nuclear war), the REAL meaning of the term (see Revelation 1-22) has almost completely disappeared.
What will happen after the return of Jesus Christ may be found in Revelation 21-22.
6- With so many abusing the term, the misuse is no mere mistake.
With the popular definition switching from “a revealing” to “doomsday,” the word has been almost completely un-tethered from its biblical meaning.
7- Many “survivalist” or prepper websites and/or literature, (mis)use the term “apocalypse” rather frequently.
This makes sense as the survivalist/prepper believes he can physically prepare for the end.
HAS the reader used or mis-used the term “apocalypse“?
IS the reader more familiar with the stories spun by men than God’s Word?
It is not yet too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
