Two different questions asked over the past week.
Two questions VERY different from each other.
But both questions were interesting in their own way.
The first was complicated and required a lengthy build-up.
The second one was simple and needed no introduction.
“Let’s say you were in your house. And someone had placed a bomb in your house. And the bomb was set to go off in 2 minutes. And I knew the bomb was in there. And I knew WHEN the bomb was set to go off. NOW, I show up outside your house and I’m shouting to get your attention: “Hey, come outside. I’ll give your $1000 dollars.” And I keep it up until you answer me. And I show you $1000. I take it out of my pocket and show you “Look, I’ve got $1000 dollars. All you have to do is come outside to get it.” So you come outside to collect the $1000 dollars and the bomb goes off and you are still alive. But I don’t give you the $1000 dollars. I put it back in my pocket and say “Hey, at least I saved your life. I’m keeping the $1000.”
The question is: how would you feel about your life being saved by a lie?
The answer?
I don’t think the question is valid.
IF one was the type of person who would drop whatever they were doing and come outside one’s house for $1000–IF one was the type of person who put that much value on $1000–then, one would not actually go outside unless the $1000 was safely in hand.
IF one valued money that much, then one would not operate on a promise. One would say “Put the money in my hand and THEN I’ll come outside.”
Besides the whole set-up sounds too much like a con game. Why would you show up at my house flashing $1000, wanting me to come outside and promising me $1000 IF I came outside?
So if I valued money that much, my life would NOT be saved–unless I was the type of person who was a regular victim of scams and con games.
The second question was also interesting, though much more straightforward.
“Would you deny Jesus to save your life?”
The answer?
This is a question which is easy for EVERYONE to answer.
It is an easy question for the non-believer to answer.
Of course the non-believer would deny Jesus to save his life: he does not believe Jesus is anybody special.
MOST people value their life; MOST–regardless of what they may say–do not value Jesus Christ.
It is an easy question for the believer to answer as well.
Of course the believer would not deny Jesus Christ. The believer values his eternity more than this wisp of a life. For the believer, it is not even a question: the believer believes in eternity and eternal consequences for actions here on earth.
AND, the believer believes God’s Word; the believer believes what Jesus Christ Himself said.
“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
–Matthew 10:32-33
Hopefully the reader will find these two questions as interesting as this writer did.
IS the reader depending upon a lie to save his life?
DOES the reader believe that Jesus Christ is nobody special?
DOES the reader wonder what all the fuss is about Jesus Christ?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
