RESISTING THE DEVIL: A Few Observations

End Times Deceptions

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
–James 4:7

James 4:7 is VERY important advice–for ANY time but particularly for the end times–from an unimpeachable source: the Bible.

A few quick thoughts about James 4:7.

1- Many omit the first five words of James 4:7.  This is especially true of many church folk.  Once there was a church where most of the congregation enjoyed telling others “Resist the devil and he will flee.”  By leaving out the first half of the verse, they destroyed the whole verse.  “Submit yourself to God” is as important as “Resist the devil and he will flee.

Perhaps this is why so many express doubts about whether James 4:7 really is effective.

It may be important to note here that so many in the times in which we live–as well as WHERE we live–have a hard time with the word “submit.” When a person has been indoctrinated from an early age that submission is a bad, weak behavior, that person will naturally resist submitting to anything–including God Almighty.

2- So many have claimed that resisting the devil is too hard–and it IS hard, even for the believer. Satan is a tricky fellow. But here’s one clue: the more one resists, the easier it becomes. The less one resists, the harder it becomes.

3- One must put one’s whole self into resisting the devil if he is to be made to flee.

Resisting the devil” implies resisting with all of the spirit and will one can muster.

Halfhearted resistance is not really resisting at all.

4- James 4:7 is NOT a mantra or a magic spell.

James 4:7 is sound advice; but it is only information.  IF there is no action on the part of the one doing the resisting, nothing will happen. The act of resisting MUST take place.

5- Once upon a time, the popular culture issued its own version of James 4:7: “The devil made me do it.”

The devil doesn’t make anyone do anything.

The devil is a tricky fellow: he will lie and talk a person into doing something.

He does not force anyone to do anything.

There are other thoughts concerning James 4:7.

But those will have to wait to another time.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”

GASLIGHTING: Control of One’s Connections to Reality IS Control of That Person’s Reality

manipulating reality

gaslight | transitive verb

to attempt to make (someone) believe that he or she is going insane (as by subjecting that person to a series of experiences that have no rational explanation)

The term “gaslight” comes from a 1944 film (based on a 1938 play)

Gaslight is an American 1944 mystery-thriller film, adapted from Patrick Hamilton‘s 1938 play Gas Light, about a woman whose husband slowly manipulates her into believing that she is going insane.

In particular (and where the play/movie took its name), the woman would see the gaslights in her apartment dim and brighten for no apparent reason.

Gaslighting” has been called a form of psychological manipulation.

What gaslighting is, is basically the control of a person’s contact points of reality. Control of those access points of reality is control of reality itself–as the film attempts to demonstrate.

Manipulate those points and the person’s contact with reality is manipulated. In fact, that person’s reality itself is manipulated.

MORE: Control of the Access Points of Reality is Control of Reality

The movie also demonstrates that another word sometimes used for “reality” is “sanity.”

So, basically the film details the account of a person who questions whether she is “crazy;” driven by someone else who is controlling aspects she uses to ground herself in her reality.

This is not far-fetched.

Again, this behavior is so common that it even has a name: gaslighting.

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity.

The idea of “manipulating reality” or “reality can be falsified” seems to be a hard concept for many to grasp.  The movie Gaslighting helps illustrate that concept.

One other way to illustrate that concept is pointing to the effects of recreational drugs. Anyone who has had much experience with recreational drug use knows how perception and reality are sometimes warped depending upon the which drugs are used, the amounts ingested and the environment in which they are used.

This is the reason several popular recreational drugs are advised to be taken in a “safe” environment, a place where the user feels “safe.”

OF COURSE, our culture conveniently provides most of the access points of reality on a daily basis: radio, music streaming, TV, movies, newspapers, various daily amusements, etc.

These access points are used by the vast majority to assure themselves that they know (and have contact with) “reality.”

Once again: control of those access points constitutes control of reality itself.

The reader may ask himself: “WHY would anyone want to control another person’s reality?

Control of reality is the basis of end times mass deception.

And end times mass deception is an everyday enterprise in the times times in which we live.

DOES the reader believe that he has a very strong grip on reality?

WOULD the believer be surprised to find that modern reality is manipulated and controlled on a regular basis by any number of entities?

DOES the reader feel he is too smart, clever or “in touch” to be so deceived?

How Is the Believer to Triumph in the End Times?

Elites: We're Number One!

EVERYONE seems to have bits of “wisdom” and advice on how to make it through the chaos of the end times.

Some advise storing up hoards of guns, groceries and gold.

Others insist that learning a number of various “survival skills” will enable them to “go off the grid” and”live off the land.”

Some of the rich and celebrated have put their faith in expensive underground bunkers and communities.

Still others tell their followers not to worry: God will magically transport them to heaven and they will not have to face what God’s Word states believers WILL have to face: end times trials and tribulation.

Only those losers who are “Left Behind” will have to stand up, testify and risk all for Jesus Christ and God Almighty.

The Bible itself is CLEAR how believers are to triumph in the turbulence of the end times.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
–Revelation 12:11

The simplest solution is often the BEST solution.

Particularly when it comes from the Word of God.

HAS the reader stored up various bits of the world’s knowledge about how to face the end times?

DOES the reader believe man can outsmart God Almighty?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

FAITH: Believing What Is Not Seen

FAITH
FAITH

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
–Hebrews 11:1

The Bible says much about faith.

Though what God’s Word has to say is hard for the world to understand.

Faith is belief in that which is not seen. This belief is so sure, certain and strong that the Bible calls it “evidence.”

Faith runs counter to ALL that the world values.  The world values what may be perceived by man’s sense: that which can be touched, smelled, seen, tasted and heard.

In addition, the world claims man has other senses, as well.

…these sensory modalities include temperature (thermoception), kinesthetic sense (proprioception), pain (nociception), balance (equilibrioception), vibration (mechanoreception), and various internal stimuli (e.g. the different chemoreceptors for detecting salt and carbon dioxide concentrations in the blood, or sense of hunger and sense of thirst).

All this runs counter to faith, (with the world putting its value in that which can be experienced through the senses) as faith itself IS evidence.

So many wonder about faith–particularly the church folk.

They wonder why their faith and the faith in the Bible are so different.

Perhaps it is because the “faith” they have is not faith at all.

So many in the churches claim to have “faith.”  Yet if pressed, most of those claiming faith will quickly line up with what Science! preaches–even when that scientific pronouncement goes directly against God’s Word.

So many others regularly demonstrate their “faith” by putting their trust in the things of this world.

An amusing story highlights this claim.

FAITHLESSNESS Simply Explained

Jesus Christ explained the difference between real faith vs. the “almost faith” of His apostles.

“And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”
–Matthew 17:14-21

Believing what is not seen.

REALLY believing.

THAT is faith.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight”
–2Corinthians 5:7

What is the reader using to walk by?

IF the reader is walking by sight, he will see the power of sight.

IF the reader is walking by faith, the power of faith will manifest itself for the glory of God.

DOES the reader believe he has faith?

DOES the reader then wonder why the promises in the Bible to those who have faith fail to materialize?

DOES the reader believe that Jesus was exaggerating when he said: “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seednothing shall be impossible unto you”?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
