gaslight | transitive verb
to attempt to make (someone) believe that he or she is going insane (as by subjecting that person to a series of experiences that have no rational explanation)
The term “gaslight” comes from a 1944 film (based on a 1938 play)
In particular (and where the play/movie took its name), the woman would see the gaslights in her apartment dim and brighten for no apparent reason.
“Gaslighting” has been called a form of psychological manipulation.
What gaslighting is, is basically the control of a person’s contact points of reality. Control of those access points of reality is control of reality itself–as the film attempts to demonstrate.
Manipulate those points and the person’s contact with reality is manipulated. In fact, that person’s reality itself is manipulated.
The movie also demonstrates that another word sometimes used for “reality” is “sanity.”
So, basically the film details the account of a person who questions whether she is “crazy;” driven by someone else who is controlling aspects she uses to ground herself in her reality.
This is not far-fetched.
Again, this behavior is so common that it even has a name: gaslighting.
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity.
The idea of “manipulating reality” or “reality can be falsified” seems to be a hard concept for many to grasp. The movie Gaslighting helps illustrate that concept.
One other way to illustrate that concept is pointing to the effects of recreational drugs. Anyone who has had much experience with recreational drug use knows how perception and reality are sometimes warped depending upon the which drugs are used, the amounts ingested and the environment in which they are used.
This is the reason several popular recreational drugs are advised to be taken in a “safe” environment, a place where the user feels “safe.”
OF COURSE, our culture conveniently provides most of the access points of reality on a daily basis: radio, music streaming, TV, movies, newspapers, various daily amusements, etc.
These access points are used by the vast majority to assure themselves that they know (and have contact with) “reality.”
Once again: control of those access points constitutes control of reality itself.
The reader may ask himself: “WHY would anyone want to control another person’s reality?”
Control of reality is the basis of end times mass deception.
And end times mass deception is an everyday enterprise in the times times in which we live.
DOES the reader believe that he has a very strong grip on reality?
WOULD the believer be surprised to find that modern reality is manipulated and controlled on a regular basis by any number of entities?
DOES the reader feel he is too smart, clever or “in touch” to be so deceived?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
