The List Makers: An Efficient Distraction of Modern Life

To-do list: another distraction

Making lists is a compulsion of many moderns in the times in which we live.

Practically EVERYONE knows someone who is in a state of perpetual list making.

Perhaps the reader himself is a veteran maker of lists?

Without their day’s list in hand, the list makers many times plead their inability to otherwise “organize“: their lives, their tasks, their daily routine.

Compiling lists implies that one is busy with many important items to remember and/or do.

List making also implies that one is truly concerned about efficiently organizing one’s life, one’s daily tasks and marking each task off the list as it is efficiently completed.

HOWEVER, if the item was TRULY important, would a list be needed to remind one of it needing done?

Satan wishes to keep every single modern person busy–right up until the moment each dies.

Stay Busy: More Advice from Satan

Back in the day, the concept of “busy work” reigned. It was the idea that if one was being paid to work, there was NO standing around. It was the appearance of “staying busy.”A near-constant command of superiors was to “keep busy.”

Busy work” was also characterized as “doing something when there was nothing to do.”

One of the two tasks of busy work remembered after all these years was 1- wiping down surfaces which had already been wiped and re-wiped “because they never can be too clean“; and, 2- making lists of all the jobs which could be done “when you have time” i.e., when one was not doing vital, necessary work.

And so, one might argue that “making lists” is a form of busy work for those who desire to appear busy.

The important question never gets asked, it seems.

“How many of those vital items on that list will be remembered–without prompting–only two weeks later?”

The list makers: just a common daily part of most people’s modern lives.

DOES the reader feel an urgency to compile “to do” lists?

DOES the reader believe that his time (and therefore, his life) is maintained and managed by the items remaining and those crossed off his lists?

DOES the reader believe spending so much effort and time on this life will somehow be rewarded?

DOES the reader believe compiling and maintaining lists of “things to do” is its own reward?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Will the World Heed Any End Times Bible Warnings?

NO: Belief not enough

“And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”
–Genesis 6:3

God Almighty sent Noah to warn man of the coming flood.

“And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly”
–2Peter 2:5

For one-hundred and twenty years, Noah warned pre-flood man of the coming judgment, preaching righteousness, urging repentance.

One-hundred and twenty years of warnings.

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
–Hebrews 11:7

And not ONE soul repented.

At the end of one-hundred and twenty years of warnings, only Noah, Noah’s wife, their three sons and their son’s wives were saved.

“when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.”
–1Peter 3:20

These were the same eight people who were saved BEFORE Noah began warning mankind.

The Bible tells us that the end times world will be much like the “days of Noah.”

“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.”
–Luke 17:26-27

Will the end times world heed any of the warnings from the Bible?

Not likely.

The Bible says that the world is totally shocked and surprised when Jesus Christ returns–even though the world has been warned for centuries about this occurring.

In this regard, the end times world is much the same as the world before the flood.

End times man has been given a much LONGER time to repent than in that long-ago time before the flood.

The first warnings about the end times judgment were given by Jesus Christ himself almost 2000 years ago.

Will it do any good?

Will it matter that end times man has been warned for almost 2000 years vs one-hundred and twenty years?

Will end times man heed the Word of God’s warnings any more than did man before the flood?

As it was with the world in the days of Noah, so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man, and so is it in the present days with nations and individuals. They have their times and their seasons of trial and probation, and they have their warnings: after which the ax is laid to the root of the tree, and nothing in heaven or in earth can stay for one moment the uplifted hand of Justice from striking the fatal stroke.
British Family Bible

Of all the excuses the end times world will offer, one thing the world cannot claim.

The world cannot claim it wasn’t warned.

DOES the reader believe that the Bible’s warnings are “overly dramatic“?

DOES the reader believe the Bible was made for a simpler, less complex time than today?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Hot Dog!

Hot-Dog

It is not known of any instances where a hot dog figured into someone’s salvation.

However, to commemorate the Fourth of July–one of the few days the hot dog is the main course of meals across America–we present the following: a paean to the lowly hot dog.

Hot Dog:

A hot dog (also spelled hotdog), also known as a frankfurter (sometimes shortened to frank), dog, or wiener, is a cooked sausage, traditionally grilled or steamed and served in a partially sliced bun. It is a type of sausage sandwich.

The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates Americans consume 20 billion hot dogs a year.

Hot Dog Fast Facts and Frequently Asked Questions about Hot Dogs

HA!

“It is estimated that 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on the Fourth of July, and another 50 million eaten by a depressed Paula Deen.”
-–Jimmy Kimmel, 2013

“Oh, this is pretty crazy. Oscar Mayer just created a new drone that can drop hot dogs from the sky. So…your move, Russia.”
–Jimmy Fallon, 2017

“While 150 million hot dogs sounds like a lot, that number actually dropped 3 percent from last year. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, the slump in sales is due to the increase in raw material costs. Maybe hot dog sales are declining because the people who eat them regularly die.”
-–Jimmy Kimmel, 2013

“A minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania is selling a hot dog wrapped in cotton candy topped with Nerds candies. And instead of condiments, every one of those comes with a cry for help.”
–Jimmy Fallon, 2018

Q: Did you see the movie about the hot dog?
A: It was an Oscar Wiener.

Q: What do you call a hot dog race?
A: Wiener takes all.

Q: When can a pizza marry a hot dog?
A: After a very frank relationship.

Q: What did the Buddhist monk say to the hot dog vendor?
A: Make me one with everything.

Lastly, though hot dogs are part of Modern Life, the reader should not become overly-fond of hot dogs: hot dogs are things of the world.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
–1John 2:15

Five End Times Warnings/Bits of Advice From Revelation 13

Revelation 13

Listening to (or reading) Chapter 13 of the Book of Revelation, one is struck by the amount of good last days advice contained in those 18 verses.

Two pieces, in particular, will come in handy.

1- A great many who believe themselves to be servants of the dragon and who will do his bidding, will be disappointed to find that they are expendable.

“If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”
–Revelation 13:9-10

This includes all of those who inform on and turn in their neighbors, acquaintances and family (Believing if they do so, they will earn protection from the worst of the dragon’s beast empire.)

“Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”

Revelation 13:9-10 also aims a pointed remark at believers as well: do not be tempted by the world and the world’s offer of leniency for those who inform on their friends and family.

2- Those who place their trust in the weapons of man to keep themselves and their loved ones safe will be disappointed when those same weapons fail them in this regard.

“If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”
–Revelation 13:9-10

The Bible has other warnings against using weapons to kill–particularly in revolt or rebellion of the civil authorities–but Revelation 13:10 is SPECIFICALLY for the end times.

“Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”

Again, these points are brought home as being particularly, specifically applicable to believers.

3- Beware 666. It is the Bible’s specific warning against the number of the beast.

“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

666 has become a fashion statement among many of today’s youth–especially those who inhabit the “Goth culture.

Some feature the number because they desire to shock their elders; others, to mark themselves as rebels from a more primitive and proper era.

Still others KNOW why 666 is used and believe it will demonstrate they are part of the end times “in” crowd.

Some in the churches believe that 666 will have to be adopted by stealthy means.

But the end times is all about the open rebellion against God and His anointed, Jesus Christ.

So, it is strongly suspected 666–as a symbol of man’s “freedom” from the “bonds” of God’s laws–will be openly displayed.

4- BEWARE! the False Prophet (False Messiah, man of sin), who will sound very religious and spiritual.  He will even look and sound like Jesus Christ and will deceive many.  BUT he will actually be speaking the words of Satan instead of God.

“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
–Revelation 13:11

5- The False Messiah (False Prophet, man of sin) will deceive many by doing “great wonders,” such as making fire come down from the sky. He will also lead the world into a new idolatry involving the image of the beast, as well as leading the world into killing those (true believers of Jesus Christ) who will refuse to worship such an image/idol.

“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”
–Revelation 13:13-15

So, the reader is offered a few bits of biblical warning/advice.

The question, as always: “What will the reader do with such information?
