Labor Day Eternal

Labor Day

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
–Matthew 11:28

Labor Day in the USA became an official holiday in 1894.

Labor Day claims to recognize the labor movement in the USA.

Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws and well-being of the country.

But how many Americans celebrate it as such?

How many see Labor Day as an extra day of rest, one day of a three-day long weekend, a day for cookouts and picnics OR the a day signalling the end of summer?

Many declare Labor Day to be a day to take a break and get in some last-minute summer rest.

With an emphasis on getting some rest.

Rest is one thing that believers are promised in God’s Word.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
–Matthew 11:28

More than once, when Jesus Christ was on earth, He promised believers rest (among other things). Although eternal rest is promised, work which the believer enjoys will be performed.  (Anyone who has worked at a job he really enjoyed knows that such work is often not even thought of as work but enjoyment.)

Again, Jesus promised rest.

“For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”
–Hebrews 4:8-11

(Now, Hebrews is speaking of the Sabbath, but this is one of the promises of rest.)

Among the promises believers receive, they are promised persecution and much tribulation.

In addition to the many promises of peace, believers are also promised rest.

Eternal rest from their labors.

Which is much better than a once-a-year federal holiday called Labor Day.

Think of it as Labor Day Eternal.

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
–Revelation 14:13

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
