Trusting the Untrustworthy

Agents of CHAOS!

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
–Proverbs 13:20

One of the main problems with trafficking in iniquity (sin) is the company one keeps.

It might be supposed that one would know full well the risks when one associates with the wicked.

But, observation, experience and history tell a different story: those who associate with the wicked many times believe that their wicked companions will act wickedly to EVERYONE ELSE BUT THEM.

Which is why so many are surprised when familiar thieves steal from THEM.

Which is also why so many are shocked when liars they know lie to them.

Which is ALSO why so many are baffled that con men with whom they consort would con them.

YET, those who traffic in iniquity make plans for the future as if their evil partners will not act as they normally do; i.e., in an evil manner.

Why is this?

1 – Many who traffic in sin not only deceive others, they themselves are deceived. This is true particularly in the end times.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
–2TIMOTHY 3:13

2 – ALL who traffic in sin are not only wicked, but also themselves deceived.

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”
–1JOHN 5:19

“And the great dragon…that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world”
–Revelation 12:9

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked”
–Revelation 3:17

3 – Those who traffic in iniquity deceive themselves into believing they are not so bad.  Therefore, their companions must not be so bad.

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes”
–Proverbs 21:2

“All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes”
–Proverbs 16:2

The basic problem of those whose companions are thieves, liars and con men is that the companions they have chosen WILL NOT (especially if given any opportunity) act any differently toward them as they do to their victims.

The reader may have heard the tale about “honor among thieves.”

However, IF the reader would honestly search his memory, he no doubt would have MORE recollections of the exact opposite behavior: no honor among thieves.

The basic problem of those whose companions are untrustworthy is that they must work and trust the untrustworthy.

The LORD is the only One man can trust.

Other men–particularly the untrustworthy?

Not so much.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
–Proverbs 3:5-6

HAS the reader fallen in or become the companion of the untrustworthy?

DOES the reader think that by “staying alert,” he will somehow stay a step ahead of those he does not trust?

DOES the reader believe he was meant to live this way?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

DOES the reader believe he is saved?

DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
