“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16
CHRISTMAS 2018
A question which one frequently hears during the holidays at the end of each year is “Are you ready for Christmas?”
It is a sign of the times in which we live–as well as a sign of what many Americans consider to be important–that this question is understood to refer to “physical things of the world“: shopping; preparations for family get-togethers or a Christmas meal or party; wrapping presents; all other holiday-related activities, such as school plays or taking in a show.
“Are you ready for Christmas?”
The question is NOT understood to be in any way related to Jesus Christ.
And the question is NOT answered in that way.
Oh sure: many families still have the holiday traditions and rituals which feature the name of Jesus. But these occasions are mostly observed because they are family traditions–not for any fervent love of Jesus Christ.
Supposedly, Christmas is about Jesus Christ and the birth of Jesus Christ. But it long ago ceased to be about Jesus–IF it ever was–because the world HATES Jesus Christ, as well as the followers of Jesus Christ.
“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.”
–John 15:18
And so, Christmas has become primarily about the things of the world: food, gifts, family, friends, entertainment.
Which, sadly, speaks more about 1- the times in which we find ourselves; and, 2- what it is that Americans find important.
It is not that this worldly outlook of Christmas is a recent occurrence.
It is not.
Christmas has ALWAYS been about worldly celebrations, particularly celebrations which please and satisfy the flesh. What is different? The closer we come to the climax of human history (the return of Jesus Christ), the more the pretenses drop and the REAL meaning of Christmas is revealed for all to see.
“Are you ready for Christmas?”
How does the reader respond?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
