Wealth: Seven Bible Verses on Chasing and Accumulating Riches

The Rules of the Rich: Can money buy you love, happiness or peace of mind?

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE WICKED AND WEALTH vs WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE RIGHTEOUS AND WEALTH

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
–1TIMOTHY 6:17-19

A great many worldly men and women spend their lives pursuing wealth until chasing and accumulating wealth becomes the focal point of their stunted existence.

In the modern world in which we live, this pursuit of what can not be kept is seen as natural and good.

But is it?

God’s Word declares that money itself is not evil: only the LOVE OF money.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil”
–1TIMOTHY 6:10

Even many of the most worldly seem to know that a mad chasing after wealth is shortsighted.

“You can’t take it with you!”

(This is echoed in 1TIMOTHY 6:7 – “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”)

“You can’t buy happiness!”

“Money can’t buy you love!”

But what does the Bible have to say about the wicked and worldly chasing after the riches of the world?

Seven Bible verses (plus one Bonus verse) about the worldly and their wealth-building habits.

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”
–Proverbs 13:22

“For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.”
–Ecclesiastes 2:26

“He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.”
–Job 20:15

“He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.”
–Proverbs 28:8

“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.”
–Job 27:13-17

“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”
–Ecclesiastes 5:10

“Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.”
–Proverbs 23:4-5

BONUS BIBLE VERSE

“But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.”
–1TIMOTHY 6:9

Next, what God’s Word declares about the righteous man who finds himself wealthy is COMPLETELY different (naturally).

What does the Bible say about the godly man who accumulates riches?

“Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.”
–Ecclesiastes 5:19

And finally

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”
–Proverbs 28:20

[NOTE: And, in case the reader believes that he is NOT wicked, but a “good person” and these verses can not apply to him: a reminder from Romans 3.

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Romans 3:10-12

This is also declared in the Old Testament.

“Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
–Psalm 53:1-3]

DOES the reader spend his time, energy and/or resources pursuing wealth?

DOES the reader spend his time, energy and/or resources checking to see how his various investments are performing?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
