“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;”
—Romans 8:15
It seems one of the prime topics of conversation these days–even if some do not initially admit it is a matter of concern–is FEAR.
In particular, a fear of the future.
Some of the most common reasons for this extreme worry/fear of the future are
- The culture continually promotes and sells fear. Whether it is the news media, the education system, the financial system, entertainment or politics/government, “fear” is a hot product–and getting hotter.
- End times moderns fear man instead of God. If a man misplaces his fear, he will know no peace. When a person fears man, he will know nothing but fear. When a person fears God, he will have rest; he will know peace; he will no longer constantly look over his shoulder, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- End times man neither knows or trusts God’s Word. Because man does not know what is to take place, he has to settle for the many unsettling tales of man–which are usually concocted to cause fear. Why? Because a frightened man is a man who is easier to herd; he will more easily go where the fear-mongers desire him to go. Moderns dismiss the ONE book which can solve this problem. Because moderns are deceived, they put their faith in the words of man instead of God’s Word.
- End times man is totally unprepared to face his future. Because moderns have been indoctrinated that everything is a physical, cause-and-effect relationship, they feel they have no control over future events. OR, they feel that other men are in control of future events. Many attempt to soothe their fear of the future by “prepping” or physically preparing for what may come. This is actually an endeavor which will cause anxiety instead of allay it. So many preppers have wondered if they have “forgotten anything.”
- Lastly, end times man puts his trust in the physical (or worse, in the deceptive spiritual nostrums of false religions) instead of the Word of God.
(There are other reasons, but based on conversations over the past six months, the five listed seem to be the reasons which pop up in these discussions.)
And so, end times man walks around in a fearful state of mind–OR in a PRE-FEARFUL state of mind.
In other words, end times man has prepared to live the future in fear.
Many fear the future.
Most fear the end times.
Almost all fear the unknown.
Is there anything to be done about this?
There is, but where believers find comfort, the lost find nothing.
Still, here are five powerful Bible verses which the believer should find comfort if ever fear knocks on his door.
Fear: What does the Bible Say about Conquering Fear?
“For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”
—Isaiah 41:13
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
—2 Timothy 1:7
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
—Isaiah 43:2
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
—1 John 4:18
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
—Isaiah 41:10
Tragically, the lost, the wicked and others of no faith will find little solace in God’s Word because they do not believe God’s Word.
Still, God’s Word is beneficial to ALL men–even those who cannot understand its finer points.
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:14
However, as one member of an Eastern cult put it: “I like to read the Psalms. They calm me down when I’m upset.”
DOES the reader find himself anxious about the future?
DOES the reader worry about finances, his circumstance, his family?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
