“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
–Matthew 24:21
The Bible informs believers that the end times will be a time of great tribulation.
And so they are.
“Tribulation” has to do with “affliction.” But tribulation connotes one particular type of affliction: the mental affliction of knowing that the path one has embarked upon offers “no escape.”
Believers KNOW that they live in tribulation.
1- The Bible PROMISES all believers tribulation and persecution.
“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
–Acts 14:22
“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
–2TIMOTHY 3:12
2- Believing the Word of God, the believer can see the dragon and his followers weaving the sundry strands of affliction ever tighter into a whole, suffocating end times tapestry of tribulation.
3- The feeling of “no escape” (a good working definition of “tribulation“) is a daily companion. All decisions, all options are influenced by the feeling of there being “no escape” from what is to take place.
4- Yet, though the tension of “no escape” grows ever tighter, the feeling of peace (promised by Jesus Christ) is not only something the believer cannot avoid noticing; it is a daily marvel to experience.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
–John 14:27
Yes, the Bible promises believers the end times will be a time of GREAT tribulation.
But the Bible also promises believers GREAT relief from that GREAT tribulation.
And because believers KNOW God’s Word to be true, they also know they will be able to endure.

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.”
–Romans 12:9-13

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
