THE NATURE OF TIME: God, Man and Time

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
–2PETER 3:8

A great many words have been written about God and time.

Some of the words are utter nonsense; others are based on what God’s Word informs us to be true.

That God is “beyond” time is something some have claimed.

That God is “outside the bounds of time” is something else claimed.

Neither is true.

God is omnipresent.

omnipresent: present in all places at all times

God exists at every point in time from beginning to end. God inhabits every point in time past, time present and time future.  This is how God knows what will take place tomorrow: God is present at every second of the time men have labeled “tomorrow.”

God is present at every second of the time men have labeled “the future.

Again, this is how God knows the end of all things from the beginning of time.

“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure”
–Isaiah 46:9-10

Those who disregard future events foretold in God’s Word do so at their own risk.

One thing is sure: man–who is finite–has a difficult time understanding the idea of an infinite God. A God who always was and always will be is a concept hard to grasp for man, who is a created being and whose short life on this earth has a beginning and an end.

God Himself has said that he “inhabits eternity“.

“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

However, “forever” and “eternity” are merely words to men, to whom 60 or 70 years is a long time.

Perhaps this is the reason Satan’s Mouthpiece (the Corporate Media) writes so many words about the earth being “millions” or even “billions” of years old: men have a hard time understanding how long such time periods truly are.

God is eternal: God has no need of time.  “Time“–a counting and marking of the finite–is something which became necessary once man–a finite creature–was created.

What need has a God who is eternal to mark time?

He doesn’t.

The marking of time is for the benefit of man, whose life is very, very temporary.

To emphasize this, the Bible calls man’s life a “shadow.”

“For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.”
–1CHRONICLES 29:15

“(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)”
–Job 8:9

“Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.”
–Psalm 144:4

Man’s life has also been compared to “grass.”

“My days are like a shadow that declineth; and I am withered like grass.”
–Psalm 102:11

“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away”
–1PETER 1:24

“But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.”
–James 1:10-11

Regardless of what rebellious men might say, God loves His creation.

ALL of His creation.  And God desires for man to spend eternity with Him–IF a man sincerely and truly desires so.

Which is why God, in His Word, has warned man of the severe judgments of God which will take place during the last days.

God has done this as a mercy: God derives NO pleasure from the death and destruction of the wicked.

“Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?”
–Ezekiel 18:23

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
–2PETER 3:9

“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”
–Ezekiel 33:11

“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.  Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.”
–Ezekiel 18:30-32

The events of the end times as declared in the Bible are a certainty.

God inhabits tomorrow and knows what has happened at that time.  He informs man in the hope that man will be warned, turn from his sin, turn to God and live.

However, the vast majority of men in the end times mock this mercy.

“How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”
–Jude 1:18

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
–2PETER 3:3-4

It is the desire/hope that the reader will avail himself of the little time he still has, repent (change direction) and save himself.

Time–which is a concept instituted for the benefit of a finite man by an infinite Creator God–has almost run out.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”
–Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

DOES the reader believe that tomorrow will be much the same as yesterday?

DOES the reader wish this to be true?

DOES the reader believe there is plenty of time to make any necessary changes to his behavior?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

DOES the reader believe he is saved?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
