Woe to the Worker of Iniquity!

Worker of Iniquity

“Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.”
–Psalm 28:3

Alas and alack!

1 Great sadness or distress; a misfortune causing such sadness

2 A curse; a malediction

Woe to the worker of iniquity!

  1. Not only does he work for the losing side at the climax of human history (the return of Jesus Christ), he has several other, less well-known problems to worry about as well.
  2. He labors for a well-known liar (Satan).
  3. YET he has to depend on the word of that liar that, when the time finally comes, he will receive his long-awaited wages of sin.
  4. Surrounded as he is on all sides by those who traffic in lies and deception, he KNOWS he is lied to.  YET, he must somehow convince himself that those who routinely lie to most others about almost every facet of modern life are not lying to HIM about the IMPORTANT things promised to him. It requires a special kind of disconnect to believe that those who routinely lie to others certainly would not lie to him.

Still, for all of the preceding, the believer is to pray for the worker of iniquity.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
–1TIMOTHY 2:1-4

A great many of the workers of iniquity  go through their entire lives pretending to be what they are not.  They live lies, telling themselves that ONE DAY it will be better and, when the time they are working for finally comes, they will no longer have to live lies but can finally live as they please, open and free.

HOWEVER, the unpleasant truth is: those who grow used to wearing masks and living lives that are lies DO NOT suddenly transform into living open and free lives.

Man is nothing but a creature of routine.

Too late will they discover that they will continue to live lies–they only live different lives; swapping one lie for another.

The worker of iniquity–in spite of his connections to the many things of the world and those who can grant him favors of this world–finds it hard to get much rest.  Most are unaware that a lack of rest and peace is something that is promised to them in exchange for their life’s choices.

“But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”
–Isaiah 57:20-21

IN ADDITION, the worker of iniquity is subject to the additional worries, doubts, anxiety and fears that are reserved for the enemies of God.

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
–Proverbs 28:1

So, the worker of iniquity has many, many, MANY reasons to be nervous.

Woe indeed to the worker of iniquity!

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
