The Bells and Whistles of a Normal Day

items or features that are useful or decorative but not essential: FRILLS

Each and every day, modern man turns to a number of “items or features that are useful or decorative but not essential” in order to reassure himself that the day is a “normal” day.

For some, it is the turning on the radio each morning on the way to work.

The radio announcer’s usually-cheery voice while spewing odd bits of information (the traffic, the weather, the week’s popular movies and songs) reassures the listener that all is right; that this day will be much like the ones which came before it.

That this day is “normal.

IF the day was NOT “normal,” the announcer would tell the listener and give him a “heads up.”

Would he not?

For others, it is something familiar, yet simple.

Such as stopping at the local convenience store and buying a morning cup of coffee.

Grabbing a cup, filling it with coffee, preparing that coffee to one’s own tastes, standing in line, waiting to pay, listening to the locals chit chat reassures the coffee drinker that all is right; that this day will be much like the ones which came before it.

That this day is “normal.”

IF the day was NOT “normal,” those in the convenience store would surely have mentioned it in their morning conversations.

Wouldn’t they?

NEITHER of these non-essential parts of the day are necessary for the day to go forward, BUT they are useful and help establish that this day will be much like the days which came before it.

Bells and whistles.

Modern man relies on the bells and whistles of his day to reassure himself that this day is “normal.”

SO, the warning would be: control of those bells and whistles is control over whether a day is considered “normal.

And so, such frills as daily radio programs and convenience store coffee become valuable if one is trying to convince the public that all is well.

That this day is much like the ones which came before it.

Something for modern man to consider.

DOES the reader have a particular bell and whistle which assures that his day will be “normal“?

WHAT does the reader do when this “normality indicator” isn’t working?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
