With All That is To Take Place in the World, Should We Bring More Children Into the World?

One topic of conversation which seems to have captured the imagination of those involved in the discussion–particularly those of a certain age group–is“With all that is happening and is to happen, should we be bringing more children into the world?”

This appears to be a popular question whether the questioner regardless of where one stands on the spectrum of belief.

On the surface, it appears to be a harder question to answer-–but it really is not.

IF one is a non-believer, it is easy to see why one fears for the future of one’s potential children.

Non-believers are moved by stories of a great many things.  Non-believers are claiming that climate change and other scary stories are forcing them to forego having children–presumably until the times are more settled.

IF one is a believer, one has to follow the commands of God’s Word.

And what does God’s Word advise?

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
–Psalm 127:3

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
–James 1:17

“And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.”
–Mark 9:36-37

“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”
–Matthew 18:10

“Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.”
–Proverbs 17:6

So, God’s Word is well disposed toward children.

Also, believers should KNOW that God controls everything–including how one’s children end up.  Of course, parents are very important, but if the parents are believers, they should believe the LORD will bless them and their children.

Believers also KNOW that there is no chance or fate: that God controls everything about the future.

“The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.”
Proverbs 16:33

FINALLY, there is the general assurance from God that He takes an interest in believers and all that is important to believers–including their children.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

So, should one have children in these very unsettled times?

The answer appears to be whether one is a believer or not.

“As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”
–Psalm 127:4-5

IS the reader of that age when he wonders about the future and whether to have children or not?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
