WORK: In the Modern World, In the Bible

work

Of all the concepts of man, the one which demonstrates the widest gulf between what the modern world believes and what is taught in the Bible MIGHT be WORK.

What God’s Word teaches about work is quite different from what the modern world teaches about that activity.

AND, while there is much to write about concerning this matter, all that can be written will not be written today.

BUT, several important points will be made in this piece: mostly a few of the differences between how the world has been taught to view man’s work (labors) and how the Bible instructs man is to treat such work.

1- Many moderns spend a large portion of their adult lives engaged in work, but not enjoying it.

Modern man has been taught that work is something which HAS to be done in order to earn a living; a necessary evil.

IF modern man can find a way to secure money and wealth WITHOUT work–well, the world will exalt such a man for being so “clever” or “smart” or having “street smarts.”

The culture and entertainment supply songs such as “Take this job and shove it“–which just might be the king of music expressing this type of attitude toward work.

“Take This Job and Shove It” is a 1977 country music song written by David Allan Coe and popularized by Johnny Paycheck, about the bitterness of a man who has worked long and hard with no apparent reward.

To contrast all of that, what does the Bible say about work?

Work is a gift from God.

Work–and not only work, but all of the necessities available from the results of labor: food, drink, shelter–is to be enjoyed by man as a gift from his Creator.

“And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.”
–Ecclesiastes 3:13

God’s Word expresses this idea more than once.

“There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.”
–Ecclesiastes 2:24

There is nothing better for a man.  He [Solomon] here teaches, that all the benefit of mere human labour is the moderate or sober enjoyment of what we have acquired by it.–Dr. Wells.
–British Family Bible Notes

No complaining.

No whining.

No finger-pointing.

Work is a large part of every man’s life.  He should be happy when gainfully employed and happy with the results of that employment.

This is in direct contradiction with the modern-day worship of vacations and holidays and “TGIF!

2- Hard labor and toil is a direct result of man’s fall in the Garden of Eden.

“And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
–Genesis 3:17-19

Contrast this command from God Himself with the modern world’s obsession with “labor-saving devices.”

A modern convenience is a labor-saving device, service or substance which make a task easier or more efficient than a traditional method. Convenience is a relative concept, and depends on context. For example, automobiles were once considered a convenience, yet today are regarded as a normal part of life.

Why does the reader believe such an emphasis has been placed on labor-saving devices?

Does the reader believe that such conveniences circumvent God’s command that man will earn his bread by the sweat of his face?

[NOTE: Never mind that few moderns believe the Biblical accounts.  But, modern man did not suddenly come to this unbelief:  this is something which has been carefully taught to modern man over the years.]

3- The Bible is clear: those who do not work will not eat.

“For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.”
–2THESSALONIANS 3:10

This USED to be a commonly expressed idea among men. Captain John Smith, one of the leaders of the Jamestown settlement in 1607 echoed this sentiment.

When Jamestown was established in 1607, Smith trained the first settlers to farm and work, thus saving the colony from early devastation. He publicly stated “He that will not work, shall not eat”, equivalent to the 2nd Thessalonians 3:10 in the Bible.

In the modern world, however, numerous government programs have been instituted which circumvent this idea.

In the modern world, it has been years since eating was connected to one’s working.

As stated, the Bible has much to say about work–much of it going against the modern world’s teachings.

The discussion will continue.

WHAT are the reader’s attitudes toward work?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16

para fine tempis - Prepare for the end times

Para Fine Tempis

para fine tempis - 400

Para Fine Tempis.

Latin is sometimes a tricky language–as is English for someone not raised as an English speaker–but this Latin phrase is translated (at least on a great number of Latin-English websites) as “Prepare for the end times.

Prepare for the end times.

VERY good advice for the times in which we now live.  BUT how, exactly, does one prepare for the end times?

To answer the above question, we present–for the reader’s edification–four very specific preparations one can make to prepare for the end times.

1- SEPARATE FROM THE WORLD

Separating from the world is one of the most important end times preparations one can make.

Perhaps that is one reason it is so HARD to accomplish?

The world is a system of the prince of this world, Satan. The world is the source of all sin.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
–1JOHN 2:15-16

What does separating from the world entail?

It means divorcing oneself from those enticements the world uses to ensnare: which encompass almost every facet of modern life: food, drink, entertainment, popularity, sociability, acclaim, sex, drugs, rock n’ roll, those things which we use to show others we are special (fancy cars, big houses, flashy lifestyles)–in short, anything which is primarily used to satisfy physical lusts, covetousness or those things of the world which stroke our egos.

2- DISCONNECT FROM THE STORIES OF SATAN AND SATAN’S WORLD

“There’s nothing in the world more powerful than a good story”
Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones

Stories are a way of indoctrinating the public.

Stories are a form of lying; as such, the world’s stories are used to create a false reality which surrounds and suffocates the world in which we live.

Stories are a tool of control.

“There is no greater power on this earth than story.”
Libba Bray

Disconnecting from the stories of Satan and the world of Satan is much harder than it might first appear. Stories are part of almost EVERY facet of modern life: education, medicine, science, politics, entertainment, culture.

Because modern man has been taught these stories from an early age, modern man BELIEVES these stories to be true.

And so, disconnecting from the lies of modern storytellers is one of the most difficult things someone has to do to prepare for what’s soon coming upon the earth.

3- FEAR GOD

Without a fear of God, the reader will fear men.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.”
–Proverbs 29:25

“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
–Luke 12:4-5

A healthy fear of the LORD is essential for effective end times preparation.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
–Proverbs 9:10

“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.”
–Proverbs 14:26

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
–Proverbs 14:27

“Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.”
–Proverbs 15:16

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
–Proverbs 1:7

4- PREACH THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, one must first LEARN the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The modern man mostly is totally ignorant of the gospel–particularly church folk who NEVER hear the gospel of Jesus Christ (though those in the pulpits may TALK a great deal ABOUT the gospel, they will NEVER preach it).

Again, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ is very rare.

Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ will NOT win the reader any friends.  BUT it will fulfill one of the commandments of Jesus Christ.

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
–Mark 16:15

[NOTE: Before one can preach/share the gospel of Jesus Christ, one must BELIEVE the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Before one can believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, one must have faith; one must seek God.  IF the reader does not believe OR if the reader does not have faith, then the reader must first seek God. THEN, one can go forth and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.]

So, four methods of preparing for the end times.

Para fine tempis.

How many readers will think to themselves, “Interesting.“?

How man readers will think “That’s too hard“–or something along those lines?

How many readers will prepare?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

para fine tempis - Prepare for the end times

Cry Out to the Lord

cry out

“I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.”
–Psalm 18:3-6

Believers know they can always call or cry out to the LORD and He will hear them.

The LORD will hear the believer because the LORD is always near to all those who call upon him IN TRUTH (sincerely).

“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”
–Psalm 145:18

In fact, the believer is TOLD to call out to the LORD while he is near.

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near”
–Isaiah 55:6

The effectiveness of crying out to the LORD is something which is repeated several times in the Bible–particularly in Psalms.

“This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
–Psalm 34:6

“Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
–Psalm 61:1-3

“As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.”
–Psalm 55:16

“I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.”
–Psalm 116:17

Lastly, we’re assured that ALL who cry out to the LORD will be saved.

“For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
–Romans 10:12-13

It should be noted that 1- Romans is referring to all who call SINCERELY upon the name of the LORD; and, 2- “saved” can mean in this life (from physical danger) BUT it also refers to eternal life; i.e., saved from an eternity of torment.

So is the reader in a time of trouble?

Cry out to the LORD.

Cry out to the LORD sincerely.

It is a resource many do not avail themselves of.

DOES the reader ever cry out to the LORD?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

More End Times Lies

lies

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
–Mark 13:3-6

The lies, deceptions and stories in the end times are many, varied and mostly BELIEVED by the public.

This includes the portion of the public who congregate in the buildings known as the churches.

Many of these lies have been taught to end times man from an early age.

Many of these lies have been told by those in authority: doctors, lawyers, political leaders, scientists, leaders in society, the culture, entertainment, journalism, education, medicine and/or business.

Many of these lies have been told for generations.  Many more of these lies are just NOW beginning to be told, so as to bear rotten fruit in the days and months to come.

Some of the lies told today are the same ones told to Eve in the garden thousands of years ago.

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die”
Genesis 3:4

“For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods…”
–Genesis 3:5

BUT regardless of how old or new a particular lie is, there will be still MORE lies to follow.

Why is this?

Because Satan is the father of lies–and Satan is now the prince of this world, so the world believes Satan’s lies and re-tells them AS IF they were the truth.

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
–John 8:44

“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”
–John 12:31

So many of the lies told today are believed by non-believers (and the rest of the world) AS IF they were the truth. Indeed, the non-believer will often get angry and argue over lies he has been taught from a young age AS IF they were the truth.

Pray for the poor non-believer: in the months to come, he will be told MANY more lies.

In the months to come, the non-believer will once more swallow these lies AS IF they were the truth.

The non-believer will not have his eyes opened UNTIL the return of Jesus Christ.

Pray for the non-believer.

Pray that the world sees through the lies it is being told now and which it will be told in the future.

Pray the non-believer becomes a believer BEFORE the return of Jesus Christ.

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
–Revelation 20:12,15

DOES the reader believe he has a good grasp of how the world works and why?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
