“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
–1SAMUEL 16:7
Because man cannot see as God sees, man often has to judge others by outward appearance: a man’s known actions, his habits, his behaviors.
Perhaps the way he looks; the way he carries himself; his speech; even he dresses.
As most who are reading this know, this is NOT a very effective way to evaluate others: often, a person can be very different–-this is especially true among those who enter politics–-from the face they present to the public.
“The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”
—H.L.Mencken
Men may flatter themselves: that a man “knows” another man very well.
YET, this is not true. The Bible tells us that man does not even know his own heart.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
–Jeremiah 17:9
So, to all the readers who may believe that they know someone well:
- Favorite movie stars or celebrities.
- Popular sports figures.
- Church leaders.
- Local politicians.
- Childhood friends.
- Neighbors.
- Family or relatives.
A word of advice: beware!
The persona a person presents to the world is often VERY different from the person himself.
EVERYONE has experienced proof of this.
But practically EVERYONE “forgets” what they know when a person has “captured the imagination.”
OR, when a someone has stroked the ego of another into believing the one being stroked can “read” people.
Again, EVERYONE claims they know that outward appearances are NOT to be trusted.
So why is it that so many are so regularly fooled and otherwise taken in by someone’s outward appearance?
Perhaps this has something to do with modern man’s abhorrence of exercising judgment?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
