WHY?

why?

One question the believer may often hear is “Why?

Specifically, “Why travel a road you believe will be bad when so many others are open?” (OR some version of this question).

In fact, this question (as well as those very similar in nature) is a regular topic of conversation with one  particular non-believer.

The question is not entirely accurate.

The believer doesn’t believe that path he has chosen is “bad.”

The believer would rather characterize his chosen way as “difficult” or “challenging“–but NOT “bad.”

Yes, there are certain difficulties promised to the believer.

“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
–1TIMOTHY 3:12

“Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.”
–Acts 14:22

“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.”
–Luke 21:17

So, why does the believer sign up for a life of persecution, tribulation and the hatred of the world?

Even in this imperfect present life: the rewards are great.

As to the question, “Why?,” a more worldly person might give the example of someone who would rather save their money today for retirement tomorrow than spend it on the many trivial pursuits today.

In the same sense, the believer is trading the VERY TEMPORARY allures of the world for the promised eternal glories of his next life.

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
–1CORINTHIANS 2:9

Trading the path of the world for the path of the believer is a no-brainer.

Yes, the path chosen may be more difficult for the short time the believer is in this present life.

BUT the retirement benefits are fantastic.

DOES the reader ever wonder about the benefits of God’s grace?

DOES the reader ever wonder about the benefits of becoming a Christian?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
