The Clever Mr. Churchill

Winston Churchill

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you”
–Mark 13:3-5

Though most will remember Winston Churchill as the prime minister of Great Britain during World War II OR as simply a long-time English politician, the fact remains that Winston Churchill spent most of his adult life writing.

Books, magazine articles, speeches, newspaper columns and articles:Winston Churchill wrote them all.

In fact, it has been said that Winston Churchill wrote more than both William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens combined.

Churchill was a prolific writer, often under the pen name “Winston S. Churchill”, which he used to avoid confusion with the American novelist of the same name. His output included a novel, two biographies, three volumes of memoirs, and several histories. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953 “for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values”. Two of his most famous works, published after his first premiership brought his international fame to new heights, were his six-volume memoirThe Second World War and A History of the English-Speaking Peoples; a four-volume history covering the period from Caesar’s invasions of Britain (55 BC) to the beginning of the First World War (1914). A number of volumes of Churchill’s speeches were also published. the first of which, Into Battle, was published in the United States under the title Blood, Sweat and Tears, and was included in Life Magazine‘s list of the 100 outstanding books of 1924–1944.

One area where Winston Churchill does not receive enough credit is in the “clever quote” category. Many of Churchill’s writings contain passages which have a double meaning: one meaning which is taken by others of Churchill’s workers of iniquity; one meaning which was taken a completely different way by the public at large.

Churchill said quite a number of things about the world and the way the world actually works which were very clever because Churchill clearly stated a truth which most ignored as the truth and took what was said as mostly “Just another example of Churchill being Churchill” or “Winston just being clever.”

A few of Churchill’s more accurate observations about the way modern life ACTUALLY works–as opposed to how most people believe life works–follow.

–“Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.”

This is demonstrated time-and-again every time a modern “stumbles over the truth” but then quiets the uneasy feelings he gets when he discovers such a truth by telling himself a lie (“It will be alright.“That’s just how the world works now.“) to cover up that discovered truth.

–“There is no public opinion. There is only published opinion.”

A fact long known by most who scrutinize the machinations of the media.

–“History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.”

And so he did.

–“If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.”

This is the one rule behind EVERY piece of propaganda ever written.  It is demonstrated daily by that large propaganda machine we call the Corporate Media.

–“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

–“The empires of the future are the empires of the mind.”

–“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”

Churchill was so clever because he often revealed the way the world ACTUALLY works, KNOWING very few took him at his word because so many believed Churchill was merely “turning a phrase.”

In other words, Churchill was so clever because so many DISMISSED what he said by thinking Churchill was just trying to be clever.

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
