A recent conversation with a well-intentioned acquaintance who belongs to one of the churches helped illustrate some of the many stories, legends and fables the church folk believe and live by.
The person was extolling the virtues of a church outreach group she belonged to.
From the way this person explained, the group met with the unchurched and attempted to persuade them to attend the local church. The group even experienced, what it considered to be, a great triumph recently.
“We’ve even talked an ATHEIST into coming to church!”
1- The temptation was strong to point out the wide divide between a (foolish) person who says there is no God and the person who attends one of the churches.
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.”
–Psalm 14:1
However, the temptation was resisted and nothing was said.
2- Deception is a spiritual problem, NOT a problem of not enough or incorrect information.
A committed atheist cannot be “convinced” by good arguments that there is a God.
Neither will sitting in a church, listening to the sermons–-no matter how entertaining those sermons may be–change the mind of an atheist.
3- Some folks appear to “give in” and capitulate because they are congenial and perhaps, LIKE the person they are talking to.
Listening to the woman’s claims of the benefits of this church group and this atheist who had agreed to come to their church DID put one thing into very clear focus however.
The great distance which separates the atheist and the true believer is not the only wide divide which presently exists.
HAS the reader ever listened to a famous church leader “debate” a famous atheist?
DID the reader wonder if any atheists were moved by the arguments?
OR, was the reader too busy cheering on the good guys?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
