“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man: Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?”
“And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
God’s Word makes it crystal clear that when one is asking something of God, the asking should continue on and on and on and on and…
In fact, Jesus Himself used two different parables to illustrate how important it was, when asking something of God, to IMPORTUNE Him.
Believers KNOW that importuning God is very important.
Not because God cannot hear the believer’s prayer the first time.
Not because God is distracted and not paying attention.
But because importuning God demonstrates the importance of the prayer and request being offered.
AND, if it is important to the one doing the praying, it is important to God Himself.
But, to many moderns, importuning God goes against everything they practice and believe. The modern thought seems to be “Of course it is important! I prayed about it, didn’t I?”
Many moderns view God as that Great Gumball Machine in the Sky: they insert their prayer, wait–and then HOPEFULLY, they will get the nice shiny prize that they prayed for.
Most moderns do not really think God answers prayers, or that praying is anything but a waste of time or that praying once about something is all the time they are going to spend on the matter.
One woman summed up the modern attitude toward importuning God in one short sentence.
“You can’t tell me that praying about something does any harm.”
Prayer does not cause one any trouble, so why not pray?
What do you have to lose?
And that is why it is important to importune God.
And that is one HUGE reason why moderns do not regularly ever see their prayers answered.
PRAY WITHOUT CEASING!
Praying to God more than one time does NOT show a lack of faith in God–as many churches teach–rather, it shows a faith in God’s Word to do what He says He will do.
“Pray without ceasing.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:17
DOES the reader IMPORTUNE God?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.
DOES the reader believe he is saved?
DOES the reader believe he is NOT saved?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:1-8
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
