Expecting the End Times To Have a Retro Look About Them?

cassette tape

“Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”
–Revelation 1:3

During a recent discussion of the end times–particularly, of WHY man does not heed the clear warnings of God’s Word in the end times– a novel idea was proposed.

The notion was so startling, it is repeated here for the reader’s edification.

“Maybe the reason people don’t pay attention to the Bible’s warnings is because they have a picture in their heads of what the end times should look like.  And today doesn’t look anything like that picture in their head!”

“I’m not sure I’m understanding you.”

“Well, what I’m saying is that people expect this certain “look” or “feel” and if that “look” isn’t the same as what people are expecting, they will miss it.”

“What kind of look are they expecting?”

“I don’t know.  Something they’re used to.  Something from out of a Sunday School bulletin or a Bible illustration of Revelation.”

“So you’re basically saying that because the end times don’t look like a Gustave Dore woodcut, people will ignore the dangers they have been warned about?”

“I don’t know.  I just know that people are looking for God smiting the earth and the mark of the beast and 666 and they’re not dealing with ANY of that that they can see.  So they don’t think that we are living in the end times at all.”

“You might have something, but it’s not the main thing.  People ARE expecting things to look like they’ve been told it is going to look.  And I don’t think it will look anything at all like they think!  So you’re saying IF people woke up one morning and went outside and everything had a more “retro” look to it, people would suddenly pay attention to God’s Word?

“I don’t think so.

“I think men are deceived–end times men especially.  And because they are deceived, they will pay attention to ANYTHING but the Word of God.  Besides, they don’t believe the Bible anymore, so why would they believe the warnings from the Bible?

“Besides, Satan isn’t going to make it easy for them.  Nobody’s holding up big signs that say, “Hey, this is in the Bible.  Pay Attention!”

“I don’t know.  I just know that what’s going on today doesn’t have that “look” that most people are expecting.”

IS the reader expecting a certain “look” to the end times?

IS the reader expecting the “look” to be a completely different look than what his everyday life now looks like?

It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

Time is Running Out: Today is the Day of Salvation

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
