An interesting question was posed recently.
“You use a LOT of Bible verses. You take the time to look them up and then quote them to people who do not believe the Bible. How come?”
This was not only a NEW question, it was the type of question which required a bit of thought before answering.
And so, AT THE TIME, “That’s a good question.” was the response.
After a bit of thinking on the matter, it is now time to look up the person who originally asked the question and provide a better answer.
Why quote the Bible to those who do not believe it?
1- The Word of God is powerful.
To NOT use it is to forfeit a powerful weapon against deception.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
–Hebrews 4:12
“Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”
–Jeremiah 23:29
2- The Bible is the Truth–the ONLY truth in the world today.
Even a non-believer places value on the truth.
Truth is also a powerful weapon against deception.
“thy word is truth.”
–John 17:17
3- The Word of God is a powerful spiritual weapon.
One has to use the best weapons available for effective spiritual warfare.
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
–Ephesians 6:17
4-One cannot preach the gospel of Jesus Christ without using the Word of God–specifically, 1CORINTHIANS 15:3-8.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the “power of God unto salvation.”
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
To NOT use the gospel is a victory for Satan.
THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
–1 Corinthians 15:3-8
5- Though a person may not be a believer at the time the Bible is quoted to him, perhaps he becomes one later. And THEN, the Word of God will truly be like a “twoedged sword.“
But this cannot happen if the person NEVER hears the Word of God.
A person’s spiritual state is not always stagnant.
One may be a lukewarm heathen one day and a believer the next.
Hearing the Word of God will help open hearts and minds.
6- The only way one can build faith is to hear the Word of God.
Without hearing the Word of God, there can be no faith-building.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
–Romans 10:17
7- The Word of God WILL prevail.
Many moderns have been taught that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of word by mere men.
However, the Word of God IS the Word of God: it is stronger than any words of men and it has proved this throughout history–even though most history is written by the wicked.
“But the word of God grew and multiplied.”
–Acts 12:24
“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”
–Acts 19:20
By denying those who do not believe God’s Word a chance to hear the Word of God, one is denying those unbelievers an opportunity to build their faith–little though it may be at present time.
ANY of the seven reasons listed is a better answer than the one originally given.
DOES the reader believe in the power of God’s Word?
It is not YET too late: there is still time to change direction (repent), place your faith (hope) for the future entirely on Jesus Christ and enter the kingdom of heaven.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
