Divine Retribution

Power of God Almighty

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
–Romans 12:19

The last days are a time of God’s judgment and vengeance–among other things.

What follows is the account of three middle-aged moderns.

At the time of the account, all three are pagans–though two of the three attend church regularly.  Two of the three are male.  ALL three believe they have been wronged in some manner.

These accounts detail how each of the three AT THE TIME reacted to those wrongs.

The first person–let’s call him “A”–had some various items stolen from his personal effects while traveling.  The value of the items taken totaled perhaps twelve dollars. An attempt to comfort “A” was made by another person.

“Cheer up!  At least what got stolen wasn’t worth a lot of money–it could have been a LOT worse!”

“Yeah, you got that right.”

“You have any suspects?”

“No.  Anyone could have gone into my room–it wasn’t locked.”

“Well, as least whoever it was will get what’s coming to them!  God will punish them!”

“Forget all that!  I want them to be caught and pay a price for what they did!”

And so “A” remained upset at his loss for several months.

IF ONLY “A” believed God’s Word, he would have KNOWN that the thief would have ultimately paid for his actions–both in this life and the next.

Therefore, “A” would not have lost a moment’s sleep over the thief was apprehended or not.

“God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.”
–Nahum 1:2

The second person (“B“) worked a job with decent pay, but had been employed previously by a VERY GOOD company which paid VERY HIGH wages.  “B” was let go–unfairly, he felt–and it was a rare day when “B” didn’t mention his former job, the company he used to work for and what he was going to do one day to “get even” for that company letting him go.  “B” was in a constant state of anger over the incident–which had happened months before.

A” made an attempt to console “B.”

“You know, anger is not good for you. The person you are angry with doesn’t even know you’re angry most of the time. You could have a heart attack or some other serious health problems by holding onto your anger for that company.”

“Oh, I’ve thought of that.”

“Yeah, staying mad will hurt you more than it will hurt them.”

“No, it won’t.”

“How do you figure?”

“My anger is not something which burns me. My rage is a cold one.”

IF ONLY “B” believed God’s Word: he would have KNOWN that if he had truly been wronged, it would have been made right.

IF ONLY “B” believed God’s Word, he would not have spent a moment concerning himself with the company, his old job or whether his old company would “pay for what (he felt) they had done to” him.

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
–Romans 12:19

The third person (“C“) had been involved in some very rocky relationship troubles.

And so, “C” posed a question one day to no one in particular.

“Do you think God still smites those who live on the earth?”

“Why?”

“Because if God is still smiting people, I’ve got a great candidate for some smiting!”

IF ONLY “C” believed God’s Word, she would not be interested in someone being smitten by God on her account.

IF ONLY “C” believed God’s Word, she would have KNOWN that her past relationship problems would be addressed in a manner FAR SUPERIOR to anything she could have imagined.

IF ONLY all three persons had believed the Word of God, they would have been familiar with God’s retribution: both in this life and the one which is to come.

IF ONLY all three of those moderns had believed God’s Word, they would not have concerned themselves with vengeance and recompense: BOTH of which God reserves to Himself.

“To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.”
–Deuteronomy 32:35

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. ”
1 Corinthians 15:1-8

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
-–Romans 1:16
